Lester Boy

Date Created:
1930's
Created by: Len Insull
Used by: Great Lester
Trivia:
1.This unnamed papier-mâché figure was originally owned by
The Great Lester and was sold to
ventriloquist Fred Kimball in 1932..
2. It is unclear whether the Great Lester ever performed with this
figure, but it was repainted and re-wigged by Lester. The eyes have
also been replaced at some point.
3. The figure was donated to Vent Haven Museum in 2000 by Alma
Brown, a relative of Kimball.
4. In addition to the figure, Brown donated several photos and
documents, including a transcript of a conversation with Kimball. In
the transcript, Kimball states that he learned ventriloquism from
Lester and became friends with Lester, and that it was Lester's wish
that Kimball take this figure after Lester's death.
5. According to the transcript, Kimball did, indeed, receive the
figure after Lester's death, and named the figure "Harry."
6. This figure is currently on display in Building Two of the Museum on
the bleachers on the left side of the building. It can be seen on
display in the
Quicktime Virtual Pan Number Two.
Once the page loads, "turn" to the right and look into the other
room of Building Two. You will see this figure on the next to the
top row almost in the center of the visible figures. He will be
easily found if you focus on his blue jacket. (HINT: You can use the
"+" sign on the virtual pan to zoom in on the far side of the
building.)
