Notes for B
ERTHA KELLY:Although not a legal adoption, Bertha was raised by the Hudson family which seems to have lived at the farm neighboring her father's in Livingston Co. KY. Census records show a young Hudson boy living with James W. Kelly (Bertha's father) and a 2 yr. old Bertha living with the Hudsons. It seems she was sent out to work as a maid as she got older as she is listed in other census records as a servant for other families. Also, in the possession of James & Wilma Foster (Bertha's son & Daughter-in-Law) are several letters written by Bertha to her half brother Sam talking about her work.
