Steps For Using a Compound Light Microscope

 

1.  Make sure the microscope is on low power.

2.  Place the slide under the objective, attempting to make sure the specimen is directly beneath the lens.

3.  Focus on the specimen using the coarse adjustment knob.

4.  Fine tune your focus using the fine adjustment knob.

5.  Move your specimen so that it is in the center of your field of view.

6.  Switch to the medium power objective.

7.  Focus using the fine adjustment knob only.

8.  Re-center the specimen.

9.  Switch to the high power objective.

10.  Focus using the fine adjustment knob only.

 

When finished with the microscope, switch back to the low power objective.
