Yes, this used to be the Lenten Journal. Since Lent is over, I'm
kinda experimenting with what to do next with this page. I guess I'll
talk a little bit about my spiritual beliefs, then I'll probably find
something better to do with it eventually *grin*.
I was raised--and still am--United Methodist. If you're expecting me
to go off on how much better my religion is than anyone else's, then sorry
to disappoint. As a child, I was United Methodist because I was raised
that way; as an adult, I learned what the UMC believes, and found that I
personally agree with these beliefs. My personal feeling about
religion/spirituality is this:
Having a belief in a Higher Power is far more important than the specifics
of
how one expresses that belief. Some people are very outgoing about
their spirituality, and "witness" to everyone within earshot. That's OK.
Some people (me, for instance) are a little more private about their
relationship with the Creator. That's OK too. I'm not shy about my
beliefs at all; I just don't want to waste telling something very personal
to people who really don't want to listen. If anyone wants to
discuss
God/Christianity/Spirituality with me, I'm game. I'm certainly no expert,
but I like theological discussion with open-minded people. I find
that I learn more that way *grin*.
I guess I should add here that, although I'm a Christian, I have great
respect for all other religions as well. I personally happen to believe
in the principles of Christianity; that's why I'm a Christian. Buddhism,
Judaism, and Islam (just to name a very few) all have their own deeply
moving stories, traditions, and wisdom. I try to impress this on my
children. We've had latkes for Hanukkah, and they've seen me observe
Ramadan (for a few days, at least). This, my friends, is how we'll
one day have peace...by educating our children to see beauty in that which
is different, and promoting understanding instead of fear.
If you want to have a mature, serious discussion about spiritual
beliefs, then by all means e-mail
me or use my ICQ Communication Center below. Also contact me if
you'd like me to pray for you (don't be shy; I'd love to). I'll
keep it private unless you
specify that you want me to submit your name (first only) and prayer
concern to either my church's Prayer Chain or the Greater Grace Prayer
Chain (which is linked below).
