The following is one of the best intros to endometriosis that I have ever read. Many thanks to Mary for allowing me to use it (please visit her site)!!

Endometriosis affects 5 million U.S. women. Endometriosis is a disease of the lining of the uterus. It causes some of the uterine lining to somehow escape being shed during menstruation. It scatters throughout the body, attaching itself to the fallopian tubes, ovaries, bowels or even the lungs, causing swelling, scarring and pain in the process. Endometriosis does NOT have a cure. There are several treatments available such as hormonal treatments and surgery, but most have many risks. Please wear a yellow ribbon to promote awareness of this disease.
