I put this racing page up because I enjoy the sport. My first love is the horses, then the excitement, and THEN the betting/gambling aspect. If you've read my handicapping page, you already know that I'm a $2 bettor who goes to the track approximately once every 5 or 6 years. I do NOT go to casinos, play video poker, play the lottery, or engage in any other kind of gambling. I do NOT bet more than $2 on each horse, and rarely bet more than 1 horse in any given race.
It certainly isn't my intent to promote reckless gambling, or to make a gambler out of anyone. I'd enjoy a day at the races even if gambling weren't allowed; there's a lot to love about the sport besides the possibility of a good payoff. THAT, my friends, is what Thoroughbred racing is all about to me; that's what I'm trying to get across here. I want to promote the sport, NOT gambling per se.
If you have a problem with gambling, there are many organizations where you can find help. Gamblers Anonymous is a good place to start. If you think you may be a compulsive gambler, take GA's 20 Questions Quiz. You can find local help in your phone book, or try an Internet search for "gambling addiction" or "problem gambling."
