KYRR 93.3 FM  2008

Music submissions from the community are what makes Yuba River different from other stations. Everybody has a song that they feel the world should hear and at KYRR we survive on unique music of the community. In 2008 the station averaged at least 50 CD submissions a month. Every disk is entered into the program computer in MP3. Using MP3 is a easy way to keep the large music library we maintain and recall requests fast. Evenings are still live from CD's.

Our original intention was to create a kick-butt music station that highlighted local musicians. A station that didn't have all the talk and hype. A station that played a widely diverse collection of music that wasn't stuck in a genre. After 4 years we are seeing how well it works. Because of our low overhead we can play more music than any station.

Clear Channel had plans to move to Pollack Pines with 20,000 watts on 93.3. After a whole lot of comments to the FCC from KYRR listeneers ClearChannel made some deals with B-93 in Modesto so that they will be on 93.1 in Pollack Pines. We hope that they can put out a signal that won't infringe on our 7 watts.   Thank you for your support of local low-power radio.

New shows are always welcome at KYRR. Stop by Grizzley Hill Library any Tuesday after 3pm for more info.

KYRR was a generous partner in Ridgestock, providing staging and infrastructure.

We own nothing, it is all a gift, treat it with respect while in it's presence, don't forget to laugh, love your mother.

We believe the station lives up to this.  Thank you for your support of local low-power radio

The Future

The station depends on your contributions of fresh content.

Bring on the music

We play anything submitted, we can fix 7 words, but... Don't give us music that you know sucks.

            1) Please tell us about language.

            2) Please tell us about questinable content.

            3) If we have to listen first it may take some time to add it to the playlist.

Stop by Grizzly Hill School Libaray Tues 3-6 pm, or the Crazy Horse Weds 8-12 pm

The really strange stuff

People come from all over America to play at Open Mic. We continue to keep under the radar of the local paper!

Tips for improved reception

Newer digital radios work better those old slider-style radios. Use a TV antenna with a booster up high facing Blue Tent/Edwards Crossing.  Reception works better on cold, cloudy days.  Good LPFM service depends on the reception-end improvement. KYRR has one of the biggest footprints of any low power in America, and we were one of the first to already get an increase of power from the FCC.

Improved signal

Resent tree work on neighboring property has improved the signal quality on the ridge. We now come in at Mother Truckers without fade! KYRR maintains a strong signal in Yuba City.

A few words from the licensee

" By many standards of community radio Yuba River is a complete failure. If a live witty personality that plays little music is success; if constant fundraising is a success; if no appeal for anyone under 40 is a success; if fear-based media, right or left is a success; if making people money is a measure of success. I think for what were doing and all the people it has reached for pennies is the wildest success that any station could ever ask for." SJ Michelsen, trustee/licensee

We're taking back the airwaves.

Against all odds, we as a community have put the ridge in the national spotlight for doing the impossibe. The hope this tiny station has given to other communities for local media is far reaching.
