| Staff is probably the first carried permanent possession and one of the first weapons, 2nd only to a rock, besides natural weapons such as teeth & claws. Staff is in almost every culture, if not indeed every culture. A "Bo" is the Japanese word for "Staff". "Jo" is Japanese for "Stick". The plural form of staff has several versions that, depending on who you talk to, are all valid somewhere in the world; staves stalves and YES "staffs" is correct to the best of my knowledge but may vary in British English, Australian English, American English, etc. "Staffs" may be possessive, like the staffs straightness, rather than plural. (English teachers and others, please feel free to send explanation & source of justification for one or other plural form, corrections or comments). It is my life goal to learn everything there is to know about all forms of staff and stick martial arts and through this site, I hope to share and continue this research. Please follow the links below and if you have any corrections or further information, please feel free to submit it to Bojutsu@Yahoo.com with the understanding that such information will be considered freely and fully given to potentially post in future. Thank you and best of luck in your training. |
