Chapter Two

My duties as a Tax Collector, for that is how I truly see myself, take me to many places and keep me quite busy. I figure people just feel better knowing they have paid for the rights to use something or visit an area or even sit in one spot afk and be nice and safe. I try to accomodate them all but sometimes they forget and I just have to prod them a bit into remembering. As it so happens this day took me to the city of Jhelom. I truly like this city. Its in a wonderful climate surrounded on all sides by beautiful beaches. The Pearl diving is great I hear. As I walked around the place I noticed that every animal I came across was wearing a tag that said it belonged to some chap named Solaman. Hmmmm who might this Solaman be? I begin to wonder if Mr Solaman has paid the local pet tax lately. I figure the best place to find one who owes so much might be found near the bank.

And wouldn't you know it thats exactly where I find him. Gazing wistfully out across the sparkling blue waters dreaming of some pirate girl no doubt who went off to pillage ships to pay his very steep pet taxes. I decide I'll just have a look in his pack myself so as not to bother his daydreaming. That would be rather rude of me. I am rather disappointed to find that there is not a thing that looks like it would be worth enough to pay his taxes. I am somewhat hungry though so I take the only thing I see that might be worthwhile. An enchanted apple. I take my leave of him for a bit to take in the sights of this wonderful plae and finally return to the cities very nice bank and what do I find? Solaman is still around and another chap, his friend Travesty has joined him.

Now Travesty appears to be in some sort of trance as I he had not moved or spoken a word the entire time I was there. And I also notice that they appear to be cluttering the area around the bank. Well this just cannot stand. They must be prepared to pay a bank tax if they wish to do such a thing. I move in to see what Mr Travesty might have in the way of payment.

Hmmmm as I poke around I see a few things of interest that might be at least a good start. Whats this? A very interesting helm although quite startling and ugly in appearance. And it appears as if it has a tiny sticker on it that says "tax payment" upon it.

Well this will do for now so I gently reach into Mr Travesty's pack, not wanting to disturb his most intense trancelike state, and take the payment that is due.

I wander around on some of the cities outer islands for a bit and return to find a most disturbing seen. Mr Solaman and Mr Travesty are fighting with one another. Brothers of the same guild no less. Fighting it out and spilling much of each others blood.

Mr Solaman yells out: "HOW COULD YOU?" And Mr Travesty asks: "How could I what?" I listen and watch for a bit and to my astonishment discover that his whole fight is over the fact that one paid a better tax than the other. Apparantely Mr Solaman felt that he should have had the pleasure of paying a better tax. I sigh and decide that maybe if I write them bot ha little note it might make them feel better.

Since these two gentlemen are so busy beating each others heads in I leave the note near where I noticed they like to rest so they would find it once they finally tired of their bloody game.

I decide I have had quite enough of such childish bickering and figure it is best if I take my leave before a stray sword swipe accidentally makes me half the man I already am.

*sigh* Another day another tax to collect. What a day I suppose a nice dinner, hot bath and long nap are in order. Well until tomorrow!
