TABOO has been nominated for four categories in the 2002 What's On Stage Awards - make sure you vote for it on the What's On Stage Website (under Features - WOS Awards). The categories are:
There are also some other interesting categories you can vote in, if you wish, but do please show your support for Taboo! Voting continues throughout January and the results will be announced in February.
Knuckles
David Ledden's band, Knuckles, for which he does vocals, are set to play their first gig in two years, presenting lots of new material. It's scheduled for Sunday 2nd February, 8.45pm, at Islington's the Hope & Anchor, 207 Upper Street, N1. This is a great music venue so if you can do go along and support them.
You can email the band at lowereastnothing@yahoo.co.uk for a flyer which will get you in at a reduced charge. For further details visit the websitelowereastnothing, which includes band info.
Mark Kulke and Dec (Billy in Taboo) will also be performing later that evening.
TABOO
Taboo is now booking until March 2003. Currently Boy George is playing the role of Leigh Bowery prior to the New York production which looks set to be very different having been rewritten for an American audience - no Petal, new names for some of the characters (?!) and of course a pretty much new cast, band and crew...
The American Embassy
The American Embassy, in which Michael Cerveris plays Gary Forbush, neighbour and confidante to the main character Emma Brody, was launched by FOX in America on March 11th. It got about 8million viewers, leaving it ranked third in its time slot, facing fierce competition. Sadly, after only four airings FOX took the decision to axe the show, despite unprecedented support through emails and on the FOX website/message board.
However, there is a good chance that WB (original home to Buffy The Vampire Slayer) may pick up the show, and many agree that it would be the perfect home for American Embassy. Amazing Journey asks you to please write and call your local affiliates for WB on the following contact details:

On Tuesday 26th March and Wednesday 27th there are to be two performances (3pm and 8pm), but check with the box office as this does keep changing! There are no performances from Thursday 28th - Saturday 30th March.

Retriever
After their gig on 24th February at The Dublin Castle, Camden, Michael and the band were back in the studio. The recording - most likely a follow up to the limited release Tastes Like Retriever Vol. One. - is expected to include what they describe as their new darker, edgier tunes: "Super Collider", "Simple Song" and "Enlisted."
Visit the Retriever website for more info.
Retriever
Michael's band Retriever played two gigs in America over the Christmas period (Maxwells, Hoboken, NJ, December 28, 2001 and Fez, New York, New York, December 27, 2001 - click to see photos on Retriever site), which seem to have been a success. The line-up has somewhat changed, with Michael Cerveris (lead vocals/guitar) and Alex Lutes (drums) still remaining, but with David Ledden on bass and Mark Kulke on guitar. Visit the Retriever website for more info.
Hedwig for Hope
Although this site is "devoted" to UK productions of Hedwig, we thought that the work Hedwig for Hope are doing is so great that they should be included here. Hedwig for Hope are an Atlanta-based charity band; in fact, The World's Only Hedwig Theatre Tribute Band for Charity...
More details can be found on our Hedwig for Hope page, or by joining their group, hedwig_for_hope_FANS.
For any of you who happen to be in the area, their next gig is planned for Saturday, December 29th, at Yaya's Cajun Bar, Downtown Decatur. Go along and support them and do please let us know how it goes!

The DVD has been released in America and the VHS is available to rent over there too. The DVD should be released here in January. Michael Cerveris in Emma Brody
With Mark Kulke and David Ledden
Michael is currently filming his new TV series Emma Brody, on location in London. Michael portrays the lead character's main confidant and cross-dressing neighbour, Gary, a performer, giving him the chance to sing and perform. The backup band includes: Alex Lutes (of Retriever); AND David Ledden on bass and Mark Kulke on guitar. The band have recorded three songs for the show at Rockfield studio, Wales- including new versions of some of Michael's own songs. Nick Brine, who worked with Michael on Retriever's debut album Hinterlands, helped out. Filming in London has also taken place with the band.
See Michael's site for further details.
Hedwig returns to London???
Rumour has it that Sarah Earl (the Edinburgh Producer) is more than keen to bring the show back to a SMALL venue in London (ie. not that Playhouse). She is currently looking at possible venues and we will let you know as soon as anything is confirmed. *fingers crossed* Seems like it has been indefinitely postponed though... never a good thing...
Hedwig the Movie comes to UK
Hedwig and the Angry Inch - the film is set to show around the country from the 30th of August. Already posters can be seen on the London Underground so look out for them *cue lots of bouncing*
Some lucky people might have already seen the film at the Edinburgh Festival where it has been shown on the 17th and 22nd of August. John Cameron Mitchell attended the first preview...so lucky those who got to be there *seeth*
Edinburgh
Kevin Cahoon appeared as Hedwig, with Virginia Hamilton as Yitzak. Mark, David and Chris from the UK cast returned as the Angry Inch, with Dragoslav Tanaskovich (Toronto cast) as MD.

In America, the movie soundtrack was released July 10th, and the film is coming out on the 20th. (Sure we love England. Don't we?). Visit Hybrid Recordings to download Tear Me Down, Wig In A Box and Midnight Radio from the soundtrack. All sung by John Cameron Mitchell, all very different from the original Hedwig CD.
