Born in Wallasey, Merseyside, Steve began his musical studies at a very early age and by the age of 14 was playing in local jazz and pop bands on various instruments including guitar, bass and keyboards; by 17 he was playing drums professionally around the Merseyside and North Wales area.
Studying jazz at Leeds College of Music for three gave him the opportunity to play with various college bands such as the Duke Ellington Repertory Orchestra and numerous student bands including his own 18 piece big band for which he wrote many of the compositions and arrangements. At this time he also started to be one of the main trumpet 'deps' for the internationally renowned latin/carnival band The Brasshoppers, with whom he has toured France and the UK.
Upon leaving Leeds, Steve joined The Official Tribute to the Blues Brothers in January 1997, taking over as musical director in July of that year. Since then he has toured extensively around the British Isles and Europe with the show. He is also currently involved in David Pugh Ltd's production of Godspell and continues to write and arrange.
Most recently Steve has done the musical arrangements for The Play What I Wrote at the Wyndham's Theatre, which features The Steve Parry Big Band.
