Let the Games Begin...

June 10, 2003

The first exhibition of the season was a big hit. The crowd size swelled to 4 by the end of the game. The Boone County Pirates hosted the Sligo Ohms at Conner High School's Nice Diamond Stadium. After a rigorous 9 innings the Pirates pulled a slight lead with a winning score of 21-13. All scoring aside, the Ohms showed a strong standing by performing most of the great plays of the night, including the "Hidden Ball Trick." Pitcher Zack "Zatch" Pennington and First Base "Reverend" Aaron Turnbull "hoisted" Right Fielder Benny "The Joo" Meeks gaining a well deserved out for the team. Also, and outstanding catch was made when Shortstop "Senator" Jacob Goessling dropped a pop-fly only to recatch the ball with his other hand.

Both teams are looking forward to the next game which will be held Tuesday, June 17, at 6:30 p.m.

Today's game was truly astounding. After extensive swapping, trading, and fill-ins, the Pirates hosted another win at their homefield. Changes included Brad "Jesus" Luke, Zack "Zatch" Pennington, and Tom "9er" Bayerline being traded to the Pirates. Kellie Blevins and Ryan Rex were new-comers to the Ohms. Todays game was similar in that the Pirates escalated their lead from commanding to down right obliterating in the 8th inning. The score was 17-7, mostly due the bottom of the 8th where almost everyone scored, and some scored twice. The inning was cut short, however, by the 10 run rule. Many good plays were made today by both teams. Matt "Heeman!" Heeman and Zach "Zatch" Pennington turned a double play late in the game. "Senator" Jacob Goessling found himself with over 6 outs caught off of fly balls. A stong showing was also made by new-comer Jamie Ballou and good effort was made by an injured Kellie Blevins. All in all, it was an exciting game to watch.

The real winners...

Although the Pirates pulled an 8 run lead at the end of the game, I think we all know who really one. The Sligo Ohms's matching uniforms were a big hit with the fans. Sure 3 or 4 of the Pirates had dinky matching hats, but the professionalism displayed by the Ohms is what really mattered. They may not have won in points, but they won in style, and therefore, won my heart.

Who am I?

Today's rosters were a bit confusing. Many of the Pirates were wearing Ohms's uniforms, and the uniformity of the Ohms was therefore destroyed. I could barely follow the game, due to these changes, however, I feel some of the changes were smart. I thought that the new players on the P's really fit into their tight fielding abilities and sense of team unity. I'm just an old lady, so I may know nothing, but I do know that the little guy with the glasses had an arm on him. Keep up the good work boys, especially you sexy young P's.
