Hall of Famers Signing Habits

Hank Aaron-Hank no longer signs through the mail due to a exclusive signing deal with Steiner Sports. He used to charge $60 as a donation for the Chasing the Dream Foundation to sign a card. Your best bet is to get him at a card show or Steiner autograph show.

Sparky Anderson-Sparky has been one of, if not the greatest Hall of Fame signer.

Luis Aparicio-Luis lives in Venezuela, it has been hard to get him through the mail. I haven't heard any successes of him by sending to him c/o his home address

Ernie Banks-Ernie doesn't sign through the mail anymore, but now stamps your cards. Like Aaron, your best bet is to get him to sign at a card show.

Johnny Bench-Johnny no longer signs for free in the mail, and charges $40 to sign a card or a baseball.

Yogi Berra-Yogi charges to sign in the mail for $30 a card

Wade Boggs-Wade hasn't been a very good signer since he left the Devil Rays in 1999.

George Brett-George sometimes signs baseballs and cards through the mail, but generally sends back a preprinted postcard.

Lou Brock-Lou charges $40 a card to sign through the mail.

Jim Bunning-Jim has been a shaky signer since being elected Senator for Kentucky. He sometimes signs in bunches, but sends back notes that he is too busy to sign since being elected. Sometimes, he doesn't sign cards, but sends back signed index cards.

Rod Carew-Rod suddenly stopped signing a few years back, and now sends back a preprinted magazine cover. Your best bet is to get him in-person at Twins FanFest.

Steve Carlton-Steve used to charge $18 a card to sign through the mail, but he no lomger has it on his website. I haven't seen a success of him in a while.

Gary Carter-Gary charges $25 a card to sign through the mail, but it is for his charity he reperesents.

Orlando Cepeda-Orlando doesn't sign usually, but some collectors report that they have gotten a note from him that he charges $30 a card.

Bobby Doerr-Bobby is a great signer through the mail. If you send him to the Hall of Fame's address, he will also include a signed HOF postcard most of the time.

Dennis Eckersley-Dennis sometimes signs through the NESN address where he works and through his new home address.

Bob Feller-Bob is a terrific signer through the Bob Feller Museum, but charges $20 a card to sign through his home address.

Rollie Fingers-Rollie is a great signer, but charges a minimal $8 per card to get signed.

Carlton Fisk-Carlton is a hit-or-miss signer that signs only about once a year. He seems to be signing items that come in larger packages like baseballs, photos, etc.

Whitey Ford-Whitey now charges $25 a card to get signed through the mail.

Bob Gibson-Bob generally does not sign at all through the mail.

Monte Irvin-Monte sometimes signs for free through the mail, but sometimes sends back a note that he requires a $10 donation to his charity for a signed card.

Reggie Jackson-Reggie now reqires a $75 to go to charity for him to sign a card.

Ferguson Jenkins-Ferguson charges $15 a card to sign a card through the mail.

Al Kaline-Al is sometimes a good signer if you send to him c/o Detroit Tigers team address where he works. He will also sign baseballs and photos for free.

George Kell-George is a great signer through the mail, but I would recommend not to send to him right now as he was in a terrible automobile accident a few months ago, and is now recovering. ~UPDATE 6/2/2005~ Mr. Kell seems to have recovered and is now sending back TTM autograph requests.

Harmon Killebrew-Harmon is a good signer through the mail, but sometimes send back a pamphlet saying he charges $50 a card for charity, or he may personalize your card.

Ralph Kiner-Ralph has been a okay signer, but may sometimes send back a paper saying he charges $50 a card.

Sandy Koufax-Sandy is a recluse and generally refuses all fan mail.

Tommy Lasorda-Tommy is not a very good signer, but may sign if you send it to him c/o Los Angeles Dodgers team address where he works, where a few successes were reported.

Al Lopez-Al has been the most difficult living Hall of Famer to get an auto from apart from Sandy Koufax. He refuses mail, sends it back unsigned, and sometimes not return it at all. Although he does sign some, they are rare.

Lee MacPhail-Lee has been a great signer through the mail as always.

Juan Marichal-Juan generally does not sign any fan mail.

Willie Mays-Willie charges a hefty $100 per card to get signed through the mail, but it all goes to charity.

Bill Mazeroski-Bill charges $5 to sign a card through the mail.

Willie McCovey-Willie no longer signs in the mail, but may do some mail-in signings for card shows occasionally.

Paul Molitor-Paul just recently stopped signing and will now send back an unsigned black and white photo.

Joe Morgan-Joe does not sign cards, but will send back a signed index card.

Eddie Murray-Eddie does not sign any fan mail c/o Cleveland Indians or home.

Stan Musial-Stan charges $75 to sign a card through the mail. If you don't pay the fee, he will send you a signed postcard or index card. If you write a good letter though, you may get your card back signed.

Phil Niekro-Phil is a tough signer to get through the mail. He may refuse your letter or send it back unsigned. Sometimes, he signs, and may sign your card and add HOF 97, personilize it, or may sign it and include a signed HOF postcard.

Bill Mazeroski-Bill charges $5 to sign a card through the mail.

Jim Palmer-Jim is an on-off signer through the mail. When he does sign, expect it to be personalized.

Tony Perez-Tony just recently signed through the mail at the Marlins Spring Training address where he works about a few years back. I haven't seen a Tony Perez success since then.

Gaylord Perry-Gaylord signs a card through the mail for a $15 fee.

Kirby Puckett-Kirby used to send signed postcards from the Minnesota Twins address, but does not seem to sign anymore due to his glaucoma.

Phil Rizzuto-Phil usually charges $12 a card to sign, but will sometimes sign your cards and include a signed and personilized HOF postcard if you write a good letter. He likes people who know his nickname "Scooter", so I guess that will help a lot.

Robin Roberts-Robin charges a fee of $12 to sign a card in the mail, but if you don't include his fee, he will still include a signed HOF induction ticket. The autograph on the ticket is not preprinted as some others may say.

Brooks Robinson-Brooks has a charity signing several times a year that charge $25 to sign a card through the mail.

Frank Robinson-Frank is a very good signer in Spring Training with the Washington Nationals, where he is the manager. He will not sign c/o home and may send items back unsigned when sent to the regular season address.

Nolan Ryan-Nolan charges a fee of $30 to sign a card through the mail for his charity. He also puts a hologram on the card and provides his own personal Certificate of Authenticity. He's definitly worth the money because you could probably never get a certified one for that cheap.

Ryne Sandberg-Ryne sometimes signs in the mail, and will sign baseballs, large photos, etc. Sometimes, he will also add HOF '05 if asked.

Mike Schmidt-Mike doesn't sign baseball cards usually through the mail, but will sometimes send back a signed HOF postcard, and fill out questionaires.

Red Schoendienst-Red used to be a terrific signer through the mail, but has now generally refused all fan mail.

Tom Seaver-Tom doesn't sign through the mail, and I haven't heard a success of him for years now.

Ozzie Smith-Ozzie signs in the mail, but in bunches. You may get your request back after a while, so don't give up on it. He will only sign TTM requests if sent c/o the Baseball Hall of Fame

Duke Snider-Duke is a great signer in the mail. People usually take him for granted because of how he signs and don't realize how great of a ballplayer he actually was. A $5 donation won't hurt either. ~UPDATE 6/2/2005~ Mr. Snider no longer signs through the mail due to a autograph contract with Steiner Sports.

Don Sutton-Don only signs a few each year, so you have to cross your fingers on him.

Earl Weaver-Earl will sign in the mail for a donation to the Miami's Children's Hospital, which he supports.

Billy Williams-Billy is an okay signer in the mail, and may include a signed HOF postcard if you write a good letter.

Carl Yastrzemski-Carl doesn't sign in the mail.

Robin Yount-Robin will usually send back a preprinted HOF postcard. The postcard looks like it was done in Sharpie, but is actually a preprint, so don't be fooled. Also, he may sign some, but rare and will almost always sign a baseball if you send him one.
