Dana's Scuba Diving Pics

One of Dana's lifelong dreams has been to go scuba diving. The Bahamas is full of small businesses which will give you instructions in scuba diving and then take you on a supervised dive. We dove with the great folks at Xanadu Diving. www.xanadudive.com Wilfred was a great instructor!!!

Training in the Pool

Before you can go diving in the sea, you first have to complete a safety and diving course in a swimming pool. David took this picture of me while I was in the swimming pool. I could not believe that I was about to make a dream come true!

The Reef Dive

Well, I successfully completed my training, and we dove onto a coral reef. I had trouble equalizing my ears, but once I got use to the pressure, I was OK. I swam like a fish, saw lots of cool fish, and had the time of my life.

Shark Dive

I had such a great time with the Reef Dive that later that afternoon, I went on a dive where they fed sharks. Let me tell you, these sharks were not small. Most were about 6 feet long. We even had one shark that was 10 feet long. The divemaster counted 25 sharks. Plus, there were sting rays and other fish. We dove through a school of barracuda to get to the shark site. I took this picture. See how close the shark was to me!!! The sharks acted like we were not even there. They swam directly over our heads and in between our bodies. It was not unusual to be struck by a fin. The divemaster was able to put one of the sharks in a trance. He then brought it to each of us and we got to touch it. What a rush!!! It was one of the most exhilirating moments in my life.

They would not let David dive because he was too excitable under water. He uses his hands alot when swimming, and you have to sit absolutely still and not move your hands. They were afraid he would be bitten if he used his hands to compensate for movement by the tide.
