The Prez's Preamble

 It's Winter!

Ooh, frost is on the pumpkin this morning, gang! I hope this finds all of you warm enough and with enough funds to keep you that way until the spring.  Dear hubby has been hard at work keeping the woodpile ready and I think this weekend is a fine time to start up the fireplace.  After all, the garden task list is finally coming to a close and it's time to start daydreaming about next year's garden and forget all about the catastrophe you planted this year.  Yes, we all do it-even the Prez.  Sometimes Mother Nature is not all that cooperative and your best idea turns into a shriveled, pesty, raggedy nightmare that ends up on the compost heap.

Alas, there is always next year. And if not, well, then, it's somebody else's nightmare to fix, isn't it?

Happy Holidays!

The wedding day of my dear friend and fellow PW, "Mini Me" and her handsome groom. A lovely evening, beautiful people, and great food.  The Prez was delighted to be on the guest list

The Prez and the family (including the good fairy and her prince) spent an enchanting weekend at the Biltmore estate in North Carolina.  Such an honor to walk in a FLO design.

APRIL 2005

Aah, Cleveland in the spring!  DH and the Prez spent a weekend R&R at the botanical gardens.  Coming home, we stopped in columbus to view the world's only topiary interpretation of an impressionist painting.  Plus the botanical garden in Columbus wasn't too shabby either.

MARCH 2005
Club members were a bit thin this month, but it was raining dreadfully on the day of the meeting. The Prez, Mr. Prez and new member the Divine Ms "M" braved the weather and had a nice two hour lunch.  The Prez brought her gourd birds for show and tell and got strange looks from the surrounding tables.
FEBRUARY 2005

There were no takers on a meeting for this month.  next date is in March.

  • The good fairy and the cowgirl are planning to accompany the Prez to the Bilmore Estate in May.  Any interested parties please speak up.  At this writing, the group is up to 11!
JANUARY 2005

A fairly dull month for the garden club members.  Everyone is still busy stowing holiday decorations and obsessing about New Year Resolutions
DECEMBER 2004

Well, 2004 went by so quick and so busily that we never had an official gardening meeting.  Although we did have several get togethers involving good food and many good friends.  Hopefully in January we will have better luck.
  • The Prez and hubby had a weekend getaway at Natural Bridge Resort in Slade, Kentucky.  Although it was chilly at the start, the hiking was energizing and the view atop the bridge was awesome even in winter.  There were some HUGE rhododendrons in the park. The picture below is just one or two branches of one! We also cruised through the Red River Gorge geological area and were equally impressed.

  • Congratulations to the Good Fairy for taking control of her work life and reducing the stress by reducing her workload!
  • I believe that  our Grateful Dead gardener, Mary has a new monicker after a certain 4th of July Party; please refer to her as the Greek Goddess of the Toga!
  • It seems that our Hippie gardener, Kim has managed to get most of her trees in the ground this year! It's always good to report when one's eyes are not bigger than one's roots!
JANUARY 2004

  • Our first meeting of the new year was on Saturday and a good time was had by all.  We discussed gourd art and decided that this might be a good garden craft to do in February.  The cowgirl should have her basement ready by then and would be happy to have the members over.  Look for an email with the details
  • The award for Best Attendance in 2003 goes to the Prez's Mom!  Ironically, said member was absent  and unable to accept her prize in person.....
DECEMBER 2003
  • The good Fairy was busy this month offering to act as hostess for her employer's holiday party.  Catering and decorations were outstanding and the Prez enjoyed the evening-even if she didn't know diddly-squat about all that physical therapy stuff.  The prez hung out with Maid Marion,  and Mr. Prez managed to NOT set himself on fire out by the firepit, thank heavens!
  • Four members of our fab club attended the Christmas bazaar held at Freedom Hall.  The Good Fairy found quite a few things for holiday gifts, but the Prez got bupkus this trip.  I believe Football Dudes Wife found a few goodies too.  Having worked up an appetite from schlepping the entire South Wing, we stopped at Outback and shared a Bloomin' Onion.  Much Thanks to the Cowgirl for the transportation and also kudos to the Good Fairy for paying for our eats!
NOVEMBER 2003
  • On Sunday November 9th, garden club member (let's call her the Good Fairy!) invited me to accompany her to an arts exibit at the UK Arboretum in Lexington Kentucky.  The art was quite nice, especially the metal garden sculpture which-upon closer inspection-was on loan from our own good fairy!

  good fairy sculpture
It was personally designed and crafted for her by the Kaviar
Forge artist.  She plans to place it in her garden, which is
        lovely, by the way.

  • The prez and the Mr. had a weekend getaway at Cumberland Falls Resort.  The falls were beautiful, and we even saw the rainbow.  If you are there on a full moon, there is a moonbow.  We stopped at "Christmas Island" (Gen. Burnside park, I believe) and drove through the park and looked at all of the many christmas light displays. They were huge and intricate and I highly recommend a drive by if you get the chance.  We had alot of nice digi pictures I was going to share with you, but, alas, Mr. Prez accidently deleted them!  Guess I will have to go next year-yeepee!!
OCTOBER 2003
A good time was had by all at the Halloween party hosted by a Shelby County club member (forever known as 'cowgirl Kim"  and her husband the 'Wishful Thinking Mummy'.

Several club members were in attendance.  The cast of characters included witches, football players, knights and maids, kitty-cat vixens, vampires, hula 'girls?', doctors, pirates as well as several famous names. Zorro, Elvis, Roy Horn, Pocahantas and Mr. and Mrs Frankenstien also made an appearance.

I do have photos but first I must obtain the consent of all whom I plan to post, now that we (uh, I mean THEY) are all sober!
