Genesis Chapter 42-43:24
Highlighted words have a definition at the bottom

With God's help  Joseph had interpreted Pharaoh's dreams (Genesis 41:16). Then the Pharaoh  made Joseph a ruler over the land of Egypt.  The famine (Genesis 41:56-57) came just as Joseph said it would, but Egypt was prepared.  The Egyptians came  to Joseph to buy grain as well as people from other countries hoping to buy food for their families.

Joseph speaks to his sons

Jacob heard that there was grain in Egypt, so he told his sons to go down to Egypt and buy grain for  them so that they would not die.

Joseph's brothers go to
Egypt to buy grain.

So Joseph's ten brothers went down to Egypt to buy grain. Jacob did not sent Benjamin, the youngest brother, because he was afraid something bad might happen to him.

Joseph's brothers come to
him for grain.

Joseph had become governor over the land of Egypt, and the people of the land had to come to him to buy grain.  When Joseph's brothers arrived in Egypt they had to bow down before him with their faces to the earth.  When Joseph saw his brothers he recognized them.  He pretended he did not know them and spoke roughly to them.  Joseph asked his brothers questions about where they were from.  His brothers still did not recognize him.  Then he told them they were spies.

Joseph's brothers speak to him.

His brothers told him that they were not spies and that they had only come to buy food.  They went on to tell Joseph who they were and that they were twelve brothers from Canaan, but the youngest brother was at home, and the other brother was no more.  Joseph again tells them they are spies and tells them to send one of them to bring back their youngest brother while the rest of them were kept in prison.  Joseph then put them all in prison.

Joseph tells his brothers to bring
their yougest brother to him.

Three days later Joseph told them that if they were honest men, that they should let one of them be put in prison while the rest of them take the grain back home and then bring back their youngest brother to see Joseph and to prove that they were telling the truth.  So the brothers did as he said.

Joseph speaks to his servant.

Joseph order his servants to fill their sacks with grain, and give back their money, plus give them all they needed for the journey.

The  brothers go  back
home with grain.

The brothers loaded their donkeys with the grain and left.  Later, when they stopped for rest, one of them looked into their feed sack, which was for their donkey, and saw their money.  He told his brothers what he had found in the sack.  They all became afraid and wondered what God had done to them.

When the brothers return home,
they tell their father everything
that had happened.

When they arrived home in the land of Canaan, they told their father Jacob all that had happened to them.  They told him that they had to bring back Benjamin so that he would know that they were not spies and were honest men.  Then they could trade in the land.
The brothers told their father about how they found their money in their sacks too.   Jacob was very upset.  His son Joseph was no more and now Simeon who was in prison.  Now, he was being asked to send his youngest son, Benjamin to Egypt.

Jacob sends his sons back
to Egypt for more grain.

The famine was very bad and when they had eaten up the grain that they had brought from Egypt, their father told them to go back and get some more food.   Judah reminded his father that the man warned them that they wouldn't be able to see him unless they had their youngest brother with them.

They also told their father that the man had asked them other questions too.  Then their father Israel (Jacob) told them that they must do it.  He also told them to take some of the best fruits of the land, a little balm and a little honey, spices and myrrh, pistachio nuts and almonds as presents.  He told them to also take double the money they had found in their sacks.  So the brothers took the presents, Benjamin, and double the money with them back to Egypt.  They then came before Joseph.

Joseph was happy to see Benjamin.

When Joseph saw Benjamin with his brothers he told the servant of his house to take the men to his home and to kill an animal and prepare a meal.  They were to eat a meal with him at noon.  The servant did as Joseph commanded and brought his brothers to Joseph's home.

The brothers were afraid
they were in trouble.

His brothers were afraid because they were brought into Joseph's house.  They thought it was because of the money found in their sacks.  They thought that the Egyptians would make them slaves.   So, they talke
d talked with Joseph's servant at the door of the house and told him why they had come and didn't know how the money got in their sacks.
But the servant told them to not be afraid. Their God and the God of their fathers had given them treasure in their sacks.  He had their money.  The servant then brought their brother Simeon to them.
They were also brought into Joseph's house and given water.  Their feet were washed and their donkeys given some food.
