Thermal Imaging Camera Fundraiser
Fires are dark, smoky, and dangerous. In recent years, technology has been developed that allows us to see through that smoke. A thermal imaging camera reads heat waves rather than lights waves, then creates a picture from what it "sees". Above is an example of what a thermal imaging camera shows its operator in smoke so thick that the unaided eye can see nothing.
We're pleased to announce that our fundraising drive for the purchase of a thermal imaging camera has been successfully completed and we now have the camera in service.
Beginning in October, we aggressively sought donations from individuals, businesses, and civic groups to generate the $10,500 purchase price. By mid-December, we had raised the necessary money--and even a little extra.
On New Year's Day, Chief McClure managed to get the camera ready in time to place it on Engine 1 as we prepared to roll out on a structure fire. Early the next morning, we assisted the City of Paintsville Fire Department on a structure fire. The thermal imaging camera was put to good use on both calls.
Many thanks are in order for all those who helped us out in this project. We couldn't have done it without them. Click here to see a list of donors.
