Lafayette made some key defensive stops in the red zone last night and Eric Shaw Jr. ran for three touchdowns to lead Lafayette to a 24-14 victory over Henry Clay. Lafayette converted on all three of their red zone scoring opportunities while Henry Clay converted only two of five opportunities.
Lafayette recorded 10 first downs and 231 yards of total offense. The Generals were penalized three times for 25 yards and lost one fumble. Henry Clay recorded 14 first downs and 230 yards of total offense. The Blue Devils were penalized four times for 30 yards, lost a fumble, and had a pass intercepted.
Eric Shaw Jr. led Lafayette's ground attack with 167 yards and three touchdowns on 17 carries. Shaw scored on runs of 2, 77, and 18 yards. Darnell Burnside carried the ball eight times for 32 yards and a touchdown. Matt Britt completed eight of 13 passes for 54 yards. Keenan Green caught four passes for 32 yards. Tony Hulett led the defense with five solo and four assisted tackles. Eric Shaw Jr. added five solo and three assisted tackles.
Tyler Hooker led the Henry Clay ground game with 94 yards on 16 carries. Cole Mielcarek completed eight of 22 passes for 35 yards with one interception. Jerry Williams completed three of four passes for 32 yards and a touchdown. Jason Rider caught six passes for 44 yards. Branden Johnson added two receptions for 16 yards and a touchdown. Mike Federspiel led the defense with five solo and six assisted tackles. Ryan McCray added three solo and five assisted tackles. Jon Baker recorded four solo and two assisted tackles.
