Paul Dunbar (0-0) vs. Bryan Station (0-0)

Coach David Hensley's Dunbar Bulldogs finished 1-9 last season but enter the season with an experienced squad and enough talent to be much improved this season.  Steven Willis (220 pounds) and Jerrell Greene (210 pounds) provide size and talent at the running back positions.  5-9 155 pound Jr. Marquis Clay adds speed at the QB position.  The punting and place kicking is in good hands with Jason Nicholson

Coach Oliver Lucas enters his second season at Bryan Station and the Defenders finished 2-8 last season.  There is renewed enthusiasm at Station with a new high school and football stadium.  The Defenders have a dominant athelte returning in 6-3 240 pound Sr. SB Terrell Combs.  Also expected to be major contributors are 5-10 175 pound Sr. Qb Lance Morton and 6-4 240 pound Sr. RB Donald Wilhite who transferred from Paris High School.

Dunbar roared out of the gate to take a 24-0 halftime lead on their way to a 45-3 victory over Bryan Station.  Dunbar controlled the line on both sides of the ball to disappoint the Defenders and their fans in their opening game in their new stadium.  Terrell Combs was used as a receiver tonight and only had two catches for seven yards (both in the fourth quarter).  Bryan Station's offense was basically shut down in the first half as they were held to 14 yards on 19 plays.

Paul Dunbar recorded 15 first downs and 265 yards of total offense.  The Bulldogs were penalized eight times for 57 yards and had one pass intercepted.  Bryan Station had 10 first downs and 178 yards of total offense.  The Defenders were penalized 12 times for 69 yards, lost a fumble, and had a pass intercepted.

Jerrell Greene led the Dunbar ground attack with 69 yards and three TDs on 15 carries.  Rommel Earle carried the ball twice for 54 yards and scored on a 39 yard run.  Steven Willis added 44 yards on 15 carries.  Marquis Clay completed four of nine passes for 61 yards with one interception.  Greene had two receptions for 26 yards.  Greene also added a 52 yard punt return.  6-2 260 pound Jr. DL Quadae Singleton led the defense with three solo and six assisted tackles.  5-10 175 pound Sr. DB Steve Matthews added two solo and four assisted tackles.

Donald Wilhite led the Bryan Station ground attack with 85 yards on 16 carries.  Patrick Cornett carried the ball nine times for 77 yards.  Lance Morton completed four of 14 passes for 36 yards with one interception.  Justin Lewis-Barfield had two receptions for 29 yards.  5-11 200 pound Jr. LB Dhahran Mason led the defense with one solo and eight assisted tackles.  6-2 255 pound Jr. DL Isaiah Davis added eight assisted tackles including two for losses totalling two yards.  Davis also returned an interception pass for 13 yards.
