Coach Sam Simpson's Henry Clay Blue Devils finished 12-2 last season and have the size, depth, and talent to have another excellent season.  QB Ryan Phillippi passed for 2482 yards and 32 TDs and ran for 587 yards and seven TDs last season.  RB Dontey Gay ran for 1022 yards and 10 TDs last season.  The Blue Devils have excellent receivers including Aaron Boyd and Tyler Hooker.  The Blue Devils excellent offensive line should be anchored by 6-2 260 pound Mike Hamm, 6-5 230 pound Samuel Simpson, 6-3 245 pound Elliott Carter, and 6-4 330 pound Nigel Wells.  The defense welcomes some talented newcomers to blend with seasoned veterans.

Coach Bill Cox's Warren Central Dragons finished 10-3 last season but graduated some talented seniors from that squad.  Some of the key returnees this season include RB Tevon Boards and WR Albert Thompson.

Henry Clay utilized a 12-0 advantage in the third quarter on their way to a 33-19 victory over Warren Central.  The first quarter was scoreless and the score was tied 6-6 at halftime.  The Blue Devils took control of the game in the third quarter on two TD runs by Dontey Gay.  Henry Clay led 25-6 in the final period before Warren Central tallied two quick TDs to close the margin to six, 25-19, with 2:07 remaining in the game.  Henry Clay's Ryan Phillippi scored on a nine yard run with 1:27 remaining in the game to ensure the Blue Devil victory.

Henry Clay recorded 20 first downs and 508 yards of total offense.  The Blue Devils were penalized 10 times for 100 yards, lost one fumble, and had one pass intercepted.  Warren Central had 14 first downs and 421 yards of total offense.  The Dragons were penalized 13 times for 78 yards, lost a fumble, and had one pass intercepted.  Henry Clay was not forced to punt during the entire game.

Dontey Gay led the Henry Clay ground attack with 173 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries.  Ryan Phillippi carried the ball 20 times for 101 yards and two TDs.  Phillippi completed 14 of 20 passes for 221 yards with one touchdown and one interception.  Tyler Hooker caught five passes for 91 yards and Aaron Boyd added four receptions for 78 yards and one TD.  Ed Nzolameso led the defense with six solo tackles with three QB sacks for losses totalling 19 yards.  John Walton added two solo and seven assisted tackles.

Tevon Boards led the Warren Central ground game with 128 yards and a TD on 11 carries.  Tabarus Mitchell added 61 yards on 13 carries.  Quentin Smith completed nine of 16 passes for 253 yards with two TDs and one interception.  Albert Thompson caught five passes for 152 yards and a TD.  Adamson added three receptions for 86 yards.  Hibbitt led the Dragon defense with six solo and five assisted tackles.  Cal Jackson added three solo and 10 assisted tackles.
