Woodford County (6-3) vs. Tates Creek (6-3) October 27, 2006

The format is simple tonight--these two teams are fighting for one district playoff slot.  The winner advances to the playoffs and the loser goes home for the season.  Both teams roared out of the gate with a 5-0 record, dropped three in a row, and rebounded with a win.  Woodford County finished 7-3 last season but didn't advance to the playoffs.

Woodford County QB Trenton Fields has passed for 1588 yards and 17 touchdowns.  Shawne Lewis has caught 37 passes for 709 yards and eight touchdowns.

Tates Creek's offense this year has been led by Ty Sparks, who has gained 1552 yards and 15 TDs on the ground.  However, Sparks suffered an ankle injury last week and is doubtful for tonight's game.  The Commodores defense has been led this season by Eric Gwinn, Robert Knowles, and Alan Meadors.

Woodford County made some big plays on both sides of the ball late in the game to defeat Tates Creek 16-9.  Shawne Lewis returned a punt 50 yards for a TD to give Woodford County a 16-9 lead with 6:06 left in the game.  Pedro Gonzalez recovered a fumble at the Woodford County 14 yard line with 2:54 remaining on the clock to ensure the victory.  The Woodford County offense controlled the ball until time expired.

Woodford County recorded 11 first downs and 158 yards of total offense.  The Yellowjackets lost two fumbles, had two passes intercepted, and were penalized twice for 10 yards.  Tates Creek had 11 first downs and 132 yards of total offense.  The Commodores lost two fumbles and were penalized four times for 23 yards.  Tates Creek held a 30-18 minute advantage in clock possession.

Trenton Fields led the Woodford County ground game with 66 yards and a TD on 20 carries.  Fields also completed five of 15 passes for 74 yards with two interceptions.  Shawne Lewis caught two passes for 27 yards.  He also returned two punts for 96 yards including a 50 yard return for a TD.  Lewis also had eight solo and two assisted tackles including four tackles for losses totalling eight yards.  Pedro Gonzalez recorded two solo and three assisted tackles including a QB sack for a loss of 12 yards.  He also recovered two fumbles.

Trumain Duvall led the Tates Creek ground game with 104 yards on 19 carries.  The Commodores did not attempt a pass for the game.  Andre Reinhart led the Commodore defense with four solo and one assisted tackles including two tackles for losses totalling three yards.  Reinhart recovered a fumble and intercepted a pass.  Eric Gwinn added three solo and two assisted tackles.  Caleb Barnes recorded two solo and five assisted tackles.
