Lexington Catholic (5-1) vs. West Jessamine (3-3) October 7, 2005

Lexington Catholic leads the state in scoring with 48.3 points per game average and their explosive offense is led by QB Justin Burke.  He has passed for 1,720 yards and 31 touchdowns this season.  Burke has two big play receivers at his disposal: Cornell Burbage and Wes Caldwell, who combined for 66 receptions and 22 touchdowns.  Soph. RB Shane Israel has gained 471 yards and seven TDs on the ground.

West Jessamine moves the ball with their ground game led by QB Eric Coker and RB Eli DarbyCoker has gained more than 900 yards total offense passing and running this season.

Lexington Catholic outscored West Jessamine 21-0 in the second half in a 42-12 victory.  West Jessamine took the opening kickoff and marched 80 yards on 10 plays, scoring on a two yard run by Glendon Blanton to take a 6-0 lead.  Lexington Catholic led 7-6 after the end of the first quarter and led 21-12 at halftime.  The Knights shut out West Jessamine in the second half to claim the victory.

Lexington Catholic held a 404-339 yard advantage in total offense and enjoyed a 22-15 advantage in first downs.  Lexington Catholic had 238 passing yards and 166 yards on the ground, while West Jessamine gained 302 yards on the ground but only 37 yards through the air.  Lexington Catholic was penalized twice for 14 yards while West Jessamine was flagged three times for 32 yards, lost a fumble, and had one pass intercepted.

Shane Israel led the Knights' gound game with 111 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries.  Justin Burke completed 17 of 26 passes for 238 yards with four touchdowns.  Burke also carried the ball five time for 26 yards and punted the ball twice for a 50 yard average.  Cornell Burbage caught seven passes for 129 yards while Wes Caldwell added four receptions for 63 yards with a touchdown.  A. J. Neltner paced the Knight defense with six solo and seven assisted tackles while Davis Page added four solo and four assisted tackles.

Eli Darby led the West Jessamine ground game with 107 yards and a TD on 28 carries.  Chase Mullins added 77 yards and a score on seven carries.  Eric Coker chipped in with 64 yards on 10 carries and Tri. Burbridge recorded 48 yards on three carries.  Eric Coker completed both his passes for 37 yards.  Jake Carlson led the defense with seven solo and three assisted tackles.  Chase Mullins recorded four solo tackles and four assisted tackles.
