Lexington Catholic (2-1) vs. Franklin County (3-0) September 17, 2004

Lexington Catholic has recorded wins over Boyle County and Scott County with their loss coming at the hands of St. Xavier.  QB Justin Burke has completed 37 of 83 passes for 630 yards with four TD passes.  Franklin County is off to a 3-0 start with victories over Grant County, Frankfort, and Casey County.  Lexington Catholic has enjoyed a decided advantage over Franklin County the last two years, winning all three games by a combined score of 178-0.  The Franklin County offense has been led by QB Kaelin Ammons who has completed 49 of 92 passes for 582 yards and six touchdowns. 

Lexington Catholic raced out to a 42-14 halftime lead on their way to a 62-28 victory over Franklin County.  QB Justin Burke threw for three TD passes and the Knights recorded two special team scores.  Franklin County held a 513-432 margin in total offense and held a 27-17 advantage in first downs, but Lexington Catholic scored four TDs on plays of at least 65 yards.  Lexington Catholic was penalized nine times for 86 yards while Franklin County was flagged eight times for 77 yards. 

Lexington Catholic QB Justin Burke completed eight of 15 passes tonight for 161 yards and three TD passes with one interception.  Tyler Hancock completed three of six passes for 54 yards with one TD pass.  Tanner Doss completed both his passes for 75 yards and a TD.  Kevin Vogelsang caught three passes for 92 yards with a 68 yard TD reception.  Cornell Burbage added two receptions for 84 yards including a 65 yard TD.  Ty Stephenson led the ground attack with 63 yards on eight carries.  The Knights scored special team TDs on a 75 yard kickoff return by Wes Caldwell and a 75 yard return by Tyler Greer on a missed field goal attempt.  LB Brandon Logan led Lexington Catholic's defense with six solo and two assisted tackles including a QB sack for a minus 10 yards. 

Franklin County QB Kaelin Ammons completed 23 of 40 passes for 254 yards with one scoring pass and one interception.  Ammons also carried the ball 20 times for 118 yards and a TD.  Mark Gardner carried the ball four times for 85 yards including a 43 yard TD run.  Shane McDonald had 10 receptions for 112 yards including a 20 yard scoring reception.  Colton Riggs rolled up 189 yards on 10 kickoff returns.  Andrew Wise and Dougie Smith led the defense with five and four stops respectively.
