Harrison County (4-0) vs. Lexington Catholic (3-1) September 24, 2004

Harrison County coach Ray Graham has guided the Thorobreds to victories over Lincoln County, Garrard County, Montgomery County, and Anderson County.  The Harrison County ground game has been led by 5-8 155 pound Sr. Devon Wilson, 5-9 193 pound Jr. James Custard, 5-10 160 pound Sr. Lucas Wells, and 5-10 200 pound Jr. Caleb Switzer.  The defense has been led by 6-1 280 pound Sr. defensive tackle Allen Fryman and 6-2 304 pound Sr. nose guard Spencer Kearns

Coach Bob Sphire's Lexington Catholic Knights have a 3-1 record this year and QB Justin Burke has completed 45 of 98 passes for 753 yards and seven touchdowns.  Burke has also rushed for five touchdowns.  6-1 205 pound Sr. linebacker Brandon Logan has paced the Knights defense. 

Lexington Catholic led 21-7 after three quarters but had to survive a furious rally by Harrison County to gain a 29-28 victory.  Harrison County scored on a three yard run by James Custard and a conversion run by Custard to make the score 21-15 with 8:59 remaining in the game.  Lexington Catholic quickly responded with a 56 yard scoring strike from Justin Burke to Wes Caldwell and a two point conversion pass to David Vicini.  The score was 29-15 but the Thorobreds were far from done.  Devon Wilson scored on a 28 yards run and the conversion kick made the score 29-22 with 4:27 remaining on the clock.  Wilson scored again on a two yard run to make the score 29-28 with 19 seconds remaining in the game.  Harrison County decided to go for the win with a two point conversion but was stopped just short of the goal line. 

If you like offensive fireworks and drama, this was the game to attend tonight.  Lexington Catholic held a 448-402 edge in total offense tonight.  Harrison County held a 33:39-14:21 advantage in possession time as they ran 70 plays on offense compared to 44 for Lexington Catholic. 

Lexington Catholic was led by QB Justin Burke who completed 16 of 25 passes for 367 yards and two scoring strikes.  Burke would have rolled up even more impressive yardage totals except for dropped passes.  Kevin Vogelsang caught five passes for 161 yards.  Wes Caldwell had five receptions for 87 yards and two TDs.  David Vicini had four catches for 77 yards.  Matt Walton led the Lexington Catholic defense with 12 solo and six assisted tackles.  Jacob Locknane added eight solo and five assisted stops, while Brandon Logan recorded five solo and seven assisted tackles. 

Devon Wilson led the Harrison County ground attack with 159 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries.  James Custard carried the ball 22 times for 86 yards.  Cory Britt completed seven of 10 passes for 115 yards.  J. D. Ashbrook led the Thorobred receivers with four catches for 81 yards.
