Henry Clay lost to Paducah Tilghman 29-13 in their season opener and lost to Boyle County 45-21 last week.  The Blue Devils achilles heel this year has been giving up big plays in their two opening losses as they have surrendered five TDs of more than 40 yards. 

The Ballard Bruins have opened the season 2-0 with one of their victories a 33-19 decision over Paducah Tilghman.  The Bruin defense has been anchored by 6-2 260 pound lineman Earl Heyman, who can also run a 4.9 second 40 yard dash.  The offense has been led by QB Travis Boyd

Henry Clay trailed by a score of 13-7 with seven minutes remaining in the game, but scored 20 unanswered points to upset Ballard 27-13.  Rod Johnson scored on a 10 yard run and Jacob Barnie kicked the extra point to give Henry Clay a 14-13 lead with 6:39 remaining in the game.  Clayton Heien scored on a 45 yard fumble recovery to give the Blue Devils a 20-13 lead with 2:45 remaining on the clock.  Heien scored again 14 seconds later on an 11 yard interception return to close out the scoring and give Henry Clay a 27-13 victory. 

Henry Clay held a slight 256-243 yardage edge in total offense.  Henry Clay was penalized eight times for 77 yards while Ballard was flagged nine times for 97 yards.  Ballard held a 28:22-19:38 advantage in time of possession.  Each team lost a fumble and each team intercepted two passes. 

Salin Simpson completed 18 of 26 passes for 149 yards with one touchdown pass and two interceptions.  Rod Johnson carried the ball 15 times for 75 yards and a TD.  Clayton Heien caught seven passes for 83 yards and a TD.  Jermaine Birch led the Blue Devil defense with five solo and four assisted tackles.  Ballard QB Travis Boyd completed 12 of 23 passes for 129 yards with one TD pass and two interceptions.  Brandon Hunt led the Bruin defense with seven solo and four assisted tackles.
