Henry Clay (6-3) vs. Lafayette (6-2) October 24, 2003

Henry Clay has rolled up six straight victories and are 5-0 in district play.  The Blue Devils could clinch the district title with a victory tonight.  6-0 220 pound So. FB Rod Johnson has rushed for 710 yards and eight touchdowns on 132 carries.  6-3 170 pound So. QB Salin Simpson has completed 60 of 138 passes for 826 yards and eight touchdowns.  Simpson has been intercepted six times.  6-2 180 pound Sr. all-everything Aubrey White has rolled up 1207 all-purpose yards and 12 touchdowns.  Steve Dominianni and Mychal Dabney have led the Blue Devils defense with 52.5 and 50 tackles respectively.  Dominianni has 10.5 tackles for losses totaling -40 yards. 

Lafayette is 3-1 in the district and must win to keep their district hopes alive.  6-0 190 pound Sr. RB Kevin Trahan has gained 600 yards and six touchdowns on 110 rushing attempts.  6-0 160 pound Sr. QB Brian Dinger has completed 55 of 108 passes for 691 yards with six touchdowns.  Dinger has been intercepted 10 times.  5-7 170 pound Sr. Spencer Fain has accounted for 884 yards and five touchdowns.  The defense has been led by Chris Wiseman and Hunter Petit with 53.5 and 52 tackles respectively. 

The Lafayette Generals utilized a strong defense and an effective ground game to defeat Henry Clay 10-7 tonight.  Lafayette won their seventh victory of the season, a number they have not reached since 1985.  Lafayette got on the scoreboard first as Jr. RB Tony Rawlings (replacing Kevin Trahan tonight) scored on a 27 yard run with 3:19 remaining in the first quarter.  Henry Clay tied the score on a 12 yard pass from Salin Simpson to Aubrey White late in the second quarter.  Lafayette's Kevin Minke kicked a 20 yard field goal on the final play of the second quarter to give the Generals a 10-7 lead. 

Lafayette's defense limited Henry Clay's offense to 60 yards in the second half and intercepted two passes to preserve the victory.  Henry Clay's big playmaker Aubrey White almost ruined Lafayette's party as he returned a punt 70 yards to the Lafayette 15 yard line with five minutes left in the game.  The home crowd sighed with relief as the long return was called back because of a holding penalty.  Lafayette held a 261-190 yard advantage in total offense. 

Lafayette was led on the ground tonight by Tony Rawlings, who gained 119 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries.  QB Brian Dinger completed four of six passes for 72 yards.  Spencer Fain caught two passes for 47 yards.  The defense was led by Hunter Petit with five solo and four assisted tackles.  Petit and Jared Leedy were each credited with an interception.  Henry Clay QB Salin Simpson completed seven of 19 passes for 92 yards and a TD but was intercepted twice.  Aubrey White caught four passes for 27 yards and a score.  Robbie Gabbert led the Blue Devil defense with eight solo and one assisted tackle.  Steve Dominianni added six solo and three assisted tackles.
