Henry Clay (3-1) vs. Scott County (3-0) September 20, 2002

Coach Sam Simpson's Henry Clay Blue Devils are ranked No. 9 in the state but have a tough road test against Jim McKee's No. 7 ranked Scott County Cardinals.  6-2 Jr. WR Aubrey White has caught 16 passes for 322 yards and three touchdowns.  Sr. running backs Demetric Blackburn and Isaiah Stewart have led the ground attack with more than 200 yards each.  The Blue Devil defense has been led by linebackers 5-9 170 pound So. Matt Walker, 6-1 190 pound Jr. Josh Wright, and 5-10 165 pound Sr. Adam Zborowski

Scott County has gotten solid play from Jr. QB Chris Cronin, 5-9 218 pound Sr. OG/NG Josh Moore, Jr. HB/SS Phillip Ray, and Sr. WR Ryan Rennecker.  The Cardinal defense has been solid as they have allowed only 4.3 ppg and held opponents to 39 yards per game on the ground.  Henry Clay defeated Scott County 18-14 last year and have defeated Scott County four years in a row but the Cardinals should be tough at home tonight. 

Scott County scored two touchdowns in the two minutes of the first half to take a 20-12 lead on their way to a 41-26 victory over Henry Clay.  The Cardinals rolled up 353 yards on the ground to overcome 235 yards through the air by Henry Clay.  Scott County held a 13-12 lead late in the first half when Chris Cronin connected on a six yard TD pass to Ryan Rennecker with 7.6 seconds remaining to give Scott County momentum going into the intermission.  Henry Clay cut the deficit to 27-20 on the last play of the third period on a 68 yard TD pass from David Buchanan to Demetric Blackburn.  However, Scott County came out in the final period to put 14 points on the board to ensure victory. 

Scott County's offensive line opened up the holes and several Cardinal backs put up good numbers.  Ted Sherna led the way with 122 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries.  Phillip Ray toted the pigskin 11 times for 100 yards and two scores.  The Cardinal backs averaged 7.2 yards per rush on 49 attempts.  Chris Cronin completed four of nine passing attempts for 54 yards and one score.  Henry Clay QB David Buchanan completed 21 passes of 44 attempts for 222 yards and two touchdowns.  Aubrey White caught seven passes for 56 yards.  Isaiah Stewart had six receptions for 60 yards and one TD.  Demetric Blackburn added five receptions for 94 yards and a score.  Stewart led the ground attack with 88 yards on 11 carries and two touchdowns.
