Paul Laurence Dunbar (6-2) vs. Bryan Station (1-7) October 26, 2001

Paul Laurence Dunbar has suffered two tough losses in a row and Coach Mark Peach would like to get the Bulldogs back on track for the playoffs.  Dunbar also needs a return to form by star running back Corey Dunn, who suffered an injury at mid-season.  Dunn has carried the ball 176 times for 1261 yards and 11 touchdowns.  Aaron Mason, who has been an important cog in the Bulldog machine both receiving and rushing, will miss tonight's game with an injury.  QB Josh Ellis has completed 76 of 134 passes for 1233 yards and 12 touchdowns. 

It has been a tough season for the Bryan Station defenders and first year head coach Norm Powell.  The Defenders have played well in spots but not consistently enought to put up many wins.  Bryan Station has been led this year by 6-0 250 pound Jr. running back Markeith Gillis, who has carried the ball 97 times for 590 yard and four touchdowns. 

Tonight was just what the doctor ordered for Dunbar as they claimed a 27-6 victory over Bryan Station and Corey Dunn returned to early season form.  Dunn has carried the ball 29 times for 213 yards and three touchdowns.  Dunbar took a 7-0 lead at halftime on a 7 yard pass from Josh Ellis to Mark WethingtonCorey Dunn added a 2 yard TD run in the third quarter to give Dunbar a 14-0 lead going into the final period.  Bryan Station pulled within eight points, 14-6 on a 9 yard TD pass from Chris Yankey to Darrell Brooks.  The Defenders recovered the ensuing onside kick but was unable to capitalize.  Dunbar scored on two short TD runs by Corey Dunn to give Dunbar the victory. 

Bryan Station was led tonight by QB Drew Moran who carried the ball 10 times for 102 yards.  Moran alternated at QB tonight with Chris Yankey
