Henry Clay (6-1) vs. Tates Creek (4-2) October 5, 2001

Sam Simpson's Henry Clay Blue Devils come in tonight's game with a 3-0 district record.  The Blue Devils have been led on the ground by Isaiah Stewart, Demetric Blackburn, and Marcus Commodore with 562, 465, and 442 yards respectively.  QB David Buchanan adds balance with 770 yards through the air.  Tates Creek's ground attack has been led by Trae Hughes, Jared Heiger and Bobby Agboke with 328, 304, and 209 yards respectively.  QB David Hamilton passed for 180 yards in their 28-21 victory over Lafayette last week but don't expect Coach Mark Willoughby to change Tates Creek's ground pounding style. 

Joe Ales kicked a 36 yard field goal as time expired to give Tates Greek a 17-14 victory over Henry Clay.  The game started with heavy rain and the playing surface became very muddy Tates Creek appeared to adjust a little better to the field conditions and took a 6-0 lead in the first quarter on a 67 yard run by Trae Hughes.  They added another touchdown in the second period on a 15 yard run by Bobby Agboke to make the score 14-0.  Henry Clay got on the board in the third quarter on a 3 yard run by Marcus Commodore to pull the Blue Devils within 7, 14-7.  Henry Clay finally knotted the score 14-14 with 2:04 remaining in the game on a 49 yard scoring strike from David Buchanan to Casey Wheeler

Tates Creek QB David Hamilton was only 2 for 11 through the air for 49 yards, but both completions came during the winning drive.  The key play of the game occurred when he hit Cody Jones with a 37 yard pass to the Henry Clay 19 yard line with one second remaining on the clock, setting the stage for Ales' game-winning kick. 

Tates Creek was led on the ground tonight by Trae Hughes, who carried the ball 12 times for 105 yards.  David Buchanan was 12 of 21 through the air for 165 yards for Henry Clay.  Casey Wheeler caught 5 passes for 95 yards.  Henry Clay out gained Tates Creek 309-237 on offense but Tates Creek got the key key statistic for the night -- a win.
