Scott County (5-4) vs. Henry Clay (6-2) October 20, 2000

Coach Jim McKee’s Scott County Cardinals have two big wins this year, over Boone County and Bryan Station, and face another tough foe tonight in Sam Simpson's Henry Clay Blue Devils.  Scott County has been led on the ground this year by 5-8 155 pound Jr. Jayce Johnson and 6-0 196 pound Sr. Marcus Raglin. QB Justin Christman has a big target in 6-2 188 Sr. WR Drew Willis.  The defense has been led by 5-11 180 pound Sr. linebacker Jesse Jones.

The Henry Clay Blue Devils are taking dead aim on the district championship and have adapted quite well after the Shane Boyd, Zia Combs, etc. era.  They lost a ton of talent last year but Sam Simpson's cupboard was far from bare.  The Blue Devils have been led this year by hard running 220 pound FB Raymon Smith and speedsters Marcus Commodore and Demetric Blackburn.  Kenny Dismeaux has provided the Blue Devils a deep threat from his wide receiver position but will not play tonight.

Henry Clay finally subdued Scott County 38-28 in a wild and wooly offensive shootout in which the teams combined for 795 total yards on offense.  Scott County held Raymon Smith to 22 yards in the first half and utilized the running of Jayce Johnson to build a 21-10 lead at halftime.  Henry Clay made some adjustments at halftime and had two long TD runs by Raymon Smith  -- 76 and 68 yards and a 72 yard scoring strike by Marcus Commodore to take a 31-28 lead at the end of the third quarter.  Commodore added a 30 yard TD run in the final quarter to provide the final margin.

Henry Clay was led tonight by Raymon Smith with 240 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries. Marcus Commodore added 117 yards rushing and two touchdowns on only three carries.  Scott County was led by Jayce Johnson with 205 rushing yards on 23 attempts.  Marcus Raglin added 74 yards on 13 carries and one touchdown. QB Justin Cristman completed 11 passes of 23 attempts for 121 yards and two touchdowns but was intercepted three times.  WR Drew Willis caught 7 passes for 85 yards and two scores.
