Henry Clay (0-0) vs. Tates Creek (0-0) August 18, 2000

Tonight marks the debut of Mark Willoughby as head coach of  the Tates Creek Commodores. He will have the luxury of a backfield led by speedy Greg Baltimore who rushed for 1400 yards last year and also plays in the defensive secondary.  FB Devin Neal, a 240 pound bruiser, excels at carrying the ball as well as wreaking havoc from his linebacker position. John Clay also doubles on offense rushing for 640 yards last season and excelling as a linebacker on defense.  Graduation wiped out their experience up front, so the youngsters must grow up in a hurry.

Henry Clay head coach Sam Simpson lost a ton of talent on both sides of the ball but he also returns a lot of talent.  RB Raymon Smith and WR Kenny Dismeaux should lead the offense.  Smith rushed for 1071 yards and 20 TDs last year while Dismeaux had 32 receptions for 768 yards and had 9 scoring receptions.  302 pound Ryan Fisher and 380 pound David Parker will anchor the offensive line.

Henry Clay erased a 19-7 deficit late in the fourth quarter to grab a 20-19 win on a David Buchanan 16 yard pass to Kelly Rixie with 1:04 remaining on the clock.  Tates Creek held a 19-7 lead going into the final quarter on the strength of the running of Devin Neal and Greg Baltimore as well as a 43 yard scoring toss from David Hamilton to John Clay.

Henry Clay's Raymon Smith scored on a 6 yard run with 4:19 to go and the Aaron Ballard conversion cut the deficit to 19-14.  Henry Clay held on defense and  Kenny Dismeaux returned the ensuing punt 29 yards to the Tates Creek 28 setting the stage for the final Buchanan to Rixie heroics.   Henry Clay was led on offense by Raymon Smith with 77 yards on 14 carries and 2 touchdowns.  Tates Creek's Devin Neal rushed for 100 yards on 19 carries and one score.
