Henry Clay (7-2) vs. Bryan Station (6-3) October 27, 2000

Sam Simpson's Henry Clay squad has already locked up the district title but as usual will be pumped up to play their cross-town rivals.   Henry Clay will be led on the ground by 220 pound FB Raymon Smith who has rushed for 1158 yards this season.  The powerful Smith is complemented by the speedy Marcus Commodore and Demetric Blackburn.  WR Kenny Dismeaux gives the Henry Clay air attack a deep threat.

If Bryan Station coach John Nochta is smiling, it is because his very talented squad is finally healthy.   Eric Shelton and Greg Shiddell give the Defenders a double-barreled threat on the ground and QB Bruce Kostelnik has two deep threats in Robert Haskins and James Clayborne.  Bryan Station has a very solid defense with a lot of speed.

Bryan Station is finally healthy and based on tonight’s performance could give opposing coaches a lot of headaches in the playoffs.  The Defenders handily defeated a good Henry Clay team by a score of 48-26.  David Buchanan scored on a one yard TD run to give the Blue Devils a 7-0 lead but Bryan Station roared back to take a 28-14 halftime lead.  Henry Clay clawed back in the fourth quarter to pull within 8, 34-26.  Bryan Station regained control with a 77 yard scoring strike from Bruce Kostelnik to James Clayborne.

Bryan Station had a bevy of stars tonight on offense.  Eric Shelton rushed for 143 yards on 15 carries and Greg Shiddell added 108 yards on 18 rushing attempts.  QB Bruce Kostelnik completed 7 of 9 passes for 200 yards and four scoring strikes.  James Clayborne caught four passes for 123 yards and two TD receptions.   Robert Haskins snared three passes for 77 yards and two scores.  Haskins also scored a touchdown on a 19 yard end around run.

The Henry Clay offense was led by Raymon Smith who rushed for 105 yards on 23 carries.  Kenny Dismeaux caught 4 passes for 75 yards and one touchdown.  Marcus Commodore added two receptions for 65 yards.  QB Josh Butcher completed 6 of 9 passes for 123 yards and one TD pass.
