Legendary
mountain folkways enfold the hills and hollows of
Kentucky's Eastern Highlands. The breathtaking view from
the Cumberland gap is much the same as it was when Daniel
Boone first saw it more than 200 years ago. Menifee County
is in the middle of the entire region.
This beautiful
historical house constructed with a unique curved roof
surrounded by 8 gables was built in 1908 as the residence

Thomas L. Caudel. Since that date it also has served
as a school, a courthouse, and an apartment building.
After extensive remodeling, the Caudel House was recently
restored as a private residence.

In April 1793,
thirty-five Indians attacked Morgan's Station, a fort in
Montgomery County, and captured 19 residents. Pursued
by a group of settlers, the Indians killed some captives at
Murder Branch. After a skirmish with settlers north

Ohio River. This was the last known major Indian raid
