Lisa's Transloading Instructions

After searching the web, I finally discovered how to transload. I never found a single site that did not leave me with still more questions.

Worry no more!Follow instructions listed below and you will have access to any graphic or background that you desire.

This page describes the best way to transload in my opinion. It is very simple. I am not an expert but I hope I can help you.

LET'S GET STARTED!

In order to transload you must first have a place to store your images. This is called the FTP SERVER or FTP HOST. The FILE DIRECTORIES are the individual files contained within your server account where you want the images to be saved.

1. Sign up for a free membership at Tripod.com. I picked Tripod because they have a WEBTV USERS area!

Tripod.com

2. After entering your membership information, You should be at the Tripod Home Page. Click on the BUILD icon at the top of the page.

3. The next page states "Get Started Here". You will click on the WebTV Area link.

4. You are now in the WebTV Area. This is a webpage building site compatible with our system. To transload you will not need to create a webpage. You only need to create files for storage. Click now on the HOUSEKEEPING icon.

5. You are now at the file storage area. You need to make one or more FILE DIRECTORIES. To do this click the button underneath "Things You Can Access from the Housekeeper". A list will appear. Choose "create a new subdirectory". Then click on GO.

6. Delete the word subdirectory from the box and add a file name of your choice. Example= images,. Click to add

You now have an empty file ready to accept your transloads with the filename images/. Notice that the filename you entered has a / at the end of the text.

You have finished with the upload storage area. Next you will need to go to the transload service.I am including a link toThe Freeloader

7.Click this link to go to The Freeloader

While you are at The Freeloader be sure to save it in your favorites and set a shortcut f key. For instructions on setting shortcuts just click on the word Organize while viewing the favorite folder.

8.Go to the image that you wish to transload. Click in it until it is full screen.

9. While the image is on your screen, select the f key shortcut for The Freeloader that you have choosen.

10. Once the page has downloaded, You will find the image url already entered into the box below the title. If it is not there, go back and cut the url from the image page and then go paste it into the box. Cut and paste instructions are located in the WebTV Help page. The link is on your WEBTV home page titled Help.

11. Now all you have to do is fill the the blanks!

You will see a set of numbers.Click the #1 then fill in the 1st long box with http://members.tripod.com/~YOUR USER NAME...

FTP HOST..........ftp.tripod.com

USER NAME..........ENTER YOUR TRIPOD USER NAME

FTP PASSWORD............ENTER YOUR TRIPOD PASSWORD

RENAME FILE...........Add a short name.. no spaces!

Just before hitting the transload button(If an image ends with .jpg change it to .gif or you won't be able to link to it for e-mail.)Now scroll down till you see a 2nd set of numbers....Click #1. A box will pop up...Click ok....Scroll back up NOW CLICK ON TRANSLOAD!

12. You will be taken to the transloading page at Freeloader Results. Wait until the page completely loads before scrolling down to the bottom to check and see if there is a clickable link. The transloading data will be printed on the page as each process is completed. If your transload has been denied check the print out to see where the error was.

COMMON ERRORS....

invalid file name or file does not exist- Check and be sure you entered the tripod file correctly including the / or other symbol that may appear next to the file name you picked. No spaces.

Cannot find "http://"- You have a double http in the url. Happens when you cut and paste without deleteing the http already in the box.

Invaild user name or password. Check for possible typing mistakes. Enter the words exactly like you did when you registered at Tripod.com.

CONGRATULATIONS! You can now log on to Tripod.com and find your images stored in your file directory. It now has a new url that you can use to link to the image.

Go back to your account at Tripod.com. Next go to your files you created in housekeeping. Choose the file where you transloaded your image. Click on the word "view" located directly next to the box containing the filename. You can get the new url by selecting options on your keypad. Then click the button "go to" followed by selecting the "show current" icon. There it is! Write it down or cut it and paste it. Note that if you rename the file, it will change the url.

We all need to help each other out!

These are the step by step instructions for a simple Webtv compatible transload. There are many different transloaders. ftp servers, and webtools available in the internet. The ones I used are just the most reliable ones I have found that work with a WebTV unit.
