The Start of a Life Together

Daniel "Oz" Osborne looked at the window and watched two raindrops race down to the windowsill. He put his hand into his pocket. He could feel the little velvet box in there, waiting to be opened so it could reveal it's sparkling contents. Oz wanted to grant the box's wish,he just couldn't figure out how.He lived with his longtime girlfriend Willow Rosenberg. He loved her,and he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her. All he had to do was ask that little question. It was so simple. So why couldn't he do it?

Willow was coming home soon, from a lunch-date with her old friend Buffy. Oz knew what would happen. The same thing that happened every time he tried to ask her. He would decide to leave it just one more day, and ask her tommorow. <No> thought Oz. <This time its for real.I will.I will.I will!!>

As he paced the room, he looked out and saw his car pull up the driveway of their little house, water splashing from the wheels.Willow was home.<This is it Oz.No turning back>he said to himself. The door opened with a creek.

"Hey honey." Willow said cheerfully.

Oz knew he had to pull out the same trick he used to get a date with Willow back in high school.

"Um -Willow -Willow, sweetie -um. Would it be ok if I asked you to marry me sometime, maybe?" There he'd taken the first step.

Willow was stunned. Then she let out a quick breath of air. "Oh Oz." she grinned lovingly at him.

"Is that a yes?" he said cautiously as if he didn't know the answer.

"Of course it is,Oz." Willow almost whispered.

"Ok,um,I guess there's only one way to do this." and with that he knelt down on one knee and pulled out the little velvet box. "If I'm allowed to ask you, then I will. Will you? Will you,Will?" he clicked open the box.

Willow gasped at the gold ring with three little ruby studs. "Its beautiful, Oz, thank you so much!" she wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed his cheek. "Oz I will marry you! I will!" Oz could not remember one moment in his life that he felt happier than this.

Willow drew back and stared at Oz. He slipped the ring onto her finger. It was a perfect fit.

"Come on Oz.Lets call all our friends." Willow said, saltwater welled in her eyes. They sat there together on the phone, as they dialed everyone the knew.

They had started with Buffy and Xander, who were married with twin boys. Buffy squealed. "Xander! Quick Xander! Oz and Willow just got engaged!"

Buffy called her Mom,who was living with Buffy's Watcher Ruphert Giles. They too were overjoyed to hear of the happy couple's engagement. It took about three hours to phone all their friends and relatives. At the end of the day their voices where sore from all the laughing and squealing. They went to bed early that night, and both of them dreamed of the future that lay before them. Willow kept getting up to phone people they had forgotten to call. Oz reminded her that those people had only met her a couple of times and they hardly even knew the couple. But both of them didn't care. They wanted everyone to know they were getting married.

Willow had it in the back of her mind that most people were engaged for up to a year or more before they finally got married. Willow and Oz didn't want that, they wanted to start planning the wedding right away. Oz felt proud that he'd finally popped the question, after all that worrying she had said yes and it was all as wonderful as he'd imagined. They decided they would see to making plans the next day, even if they were only small plans such as who would be the entertainment at the wedding reception.

"So. I was thinking that I could scrounge round and gather the Dingoes back together." Oz said the next day, as he and his new fiancee sat around the kitchen table over a notepad.

"That would be so great!" exclaimed Willow "You are so clever! I remember Dingoes Ate My Baby. Won't it be cool to see you guys all together again."

Oz nodded. He had something in mind. He would write a song for Willow, and he'd sing it at the wedding with the band. "So how about bridesmaids and stuff?" he said casually.

"Buffy of course. And maybe I could ask my cousin, the one you met when we were on vacation with Xander and Buffy." Willow replied.

Oz nodded again. "And I'm sure Xander will be my best man. And I'll ask Giles if he'll be the toastmaster. Can you picture it?"

Willow giggled. Giles had been the toastmaster at Buffy and Xander's wedding. He'd gotten kinda drunk and became the life of the party. That's also how he and Buffy's Mom Joyce had rekindled their romance. Willow sighed. She was so happy. She couldn't wait to marry Oz. She knew they were going to have a long happy life.

Six months passed. They had set a date after what seemed like an eternity of making arrangements. They wedding was in two weeks. They longed for the time to pass, like children waiting for Christmas. Like they had fantasised, Xander was to be Oz's best man and Buffy was Willow's bridesmaid, along with Cordelia Chase, whom she had become quite close to. The wedding was to be held at a church near the Sunnydale cemetery. They were a little iffy about having their big day near a hellmouth, but they wanted a church wedding. And Willow had chosen a beautiful dress, with the help of fashion editor Cordy. They had chosen a fruit cake with three teers. And it was topped with whipped cream. And they had covered every corner, right down to what colour border there was to be around the invitations, which had been sent out. All they needed now to complete everything was for the day to come when they were to be wed.

After one week and six days, the were inching closer to the wedding with every second that ticked by. The dream was almost to become reality.

The next day Willow, Cordelia and Buffy went down to the local hairdressers. The discussed how they wanted their hair, and how their hair would look with the dresses. Meanwhile Oz and Xander were with Giles, getting on their tuxedos. Oz's stomach was churning. Today he would become a husband. They went through the fuss, panicking, looking for things they couldn't find. The bride was fitted into a white, lacy dress, with a V neck, with tiny blue flowers woven through her red hair. Cordelia and Buffy had dresses similar, but they were a tighter look, with a split up the side. It was time. Oz and Xander got to the alter, Oz nervously picking at his fingernails. Guest poured in, filling the rows. Willow of course, was traditionally late. They waited in silence. Then... damdamdamdam, dadumdadum, do, dumdumdum, dadadumdumdumdum. The guest turned to see a gorgeous Willow, arm and arm with her father, marching up the isle, followed by Buffy and Cordy, each holding pretty flowers in their hands. Willow got to Oz, as the bridesmaids stepped aside.

"Hi"mouthed Oz, in awe of his brides beauty.

The music died down. "Friends, family, we are gathered here today in the joyous bonding of Oz and Willow. Daniel Osborne, do you take this woman to be your lawfully wedded wife, in sickness and in heath, in richness and in poorness (poorness was underlined) as long as you both shall live?" asked the priest.

"I do" said Oz.

"Do you, Willow Rosenberg take this man to be your lawfully wedded husband? In sickness and in heath, in richness and in poorness, as long as you both shall live?" he said, this time to Willow.

"I do." said Willow. A sniff was heard from somewhere near Giles.

"You may now exchange rings."

Xander passed two plain gold rings to Oz. Oz slipped a smaller one on Willow's finger, and she put one on his.

"Then by the power invested in me, I now pronuce you man and wife." said the priest, turning to Oz he said "You may kiss your bride." and that's just what Oz did.

After a wedding reception filled with laughter and happiness, Oz and Willow took off on a romantic honeymoon.

Nine months later:

"What do you think we should call him?" asked Willow, who had just given birth to a little boy, well, he was a boy usually. On fullmoons, he joined his dad, as a tiny cute puppy.

"Oz?" Willow said to her husband, who wasn't answering.

"I dunno. Oh god Willow, look at him." Oz could not believe it. He was a father. And he was so proud of his little boy. He looked at Willow and knew they were both thinking the same thing, this was the beginning of a family for them.
