♣ Process it into a format which will help you – write stuff down, or make up test questions and answers from the parts which trip you up.
♥ Remember that people aren’t perfect and there will be mistakes in the information you find on here! (It seems that many people get the boot order wrong, and try to switch config.sys with command.com, for instance)
♠ Synthesize what you know into your own personal ‘braindump’ for you to regurgitate just before you sit the test.
♦ Use acronyms and memory aids to help you. “I’m confident to command automatically” is a silly sentence that helped me remember the boot order, for instance. Someone else said that they go from shortest to longest, which I liked too.
♣ Use the discussion groups for up to date information and websites.
♥ Find as many mock tests as you can (the links above are a good starting place) and do the tests many times so that the answers are embedded in your memory!
♠ Above all, if you are like me and don’t have much practical experience, get ONE good reference book and use it as your starting point, before you even consider doing practice tests. I used A+ Certification for Dummies (Ron Gilster is busily writing an update for the new A+ tests) and found it really helpful as a primary source.
♠ People are worried that they are not getting a good score in the adaptive exams. The whole point of the adaptive exams is to avoid letting you see too many questions (and compromising the exam). As soon as you pass, they will kick you out - with perhaps a mediocre score! No longer can we get 800-odd! The only indicator I have found as to how well you have done is that if they chuck you out at question 20, that means that you have passed with only 20 questions! You have a perfect answer record.. and yet your score is 500-odd.
♦ There seems to be some anxiety about A+ (possibly because it costs a lot to sit?!) but if you harvest enough information and process it well, you WILL pass.I have just seen courses advertised for $1500US!!! My prior experience was NIL and I got there by investing about $15US (as well as time and effort). Don't be sucked in by these posh courses if YOU are willing to do the groundwork. You are sure to do well if I can!!
Good luck!
