Should Have Gone Fishing

They lived in the land between the lakes and many of them liked to call themselves " Fishermen." All the lakes and streams that surrounded them was full of hungry fish. Many large and very beautiful buildings were constructed over the years and dedicated to fishing.

The king had to leave the village for a while to find a better place for his people to live. Now the King knowing how lazy his people were, made this decree before he left- " All are Fishermen and all should Fish." But they didn’t listen and nobody went fishing. They were all to busy doing what they wanted to do. Each said to themselves; " Surely he doesn’t mean me."

They did hold meetings several times each week to talk about the best and most productive ways to fish. Almost everyone had a "How to Fish" book that they carried with them to these meetings. The problem was- Nobody wanted to read the book. They wanted to sit back and have it read to them.

So they hired professionals that had gone to schools where fishing was taught. Those that graduated from this type of schools had a degree in Fishology. They all started out telling of their visions and how they were sent there to fill the store houses with fish. They often convinced the others that larger store houses were needed to hold all the fish they were going to catch. Money was collected at each meeting for the building fund.

The people expected the professional to do all the fishing. But the hired professional only wanted to talk about fishing and they expected the people to go out and do the fishing. Usually these hired professionals didn’t stay in any one place for very long at a time. Needless to say no fishing was done and no fish were being caught. The store houses remained empty.

One day the King returned unexpected and found his store houses empty. Knowing what a kind and forgiving King he was, they all expected the King to simply forget about what he had said before he left.

One by one they stood before him on his thrown in judgment. Many of the Fishermen found themselves being cast into the lake after the King ordered them to depart from his presence and they were treated as if he had never known them.

Matthew 7:21

"Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of Heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in Heaven."
