Take It To God In Prayer
The preacher ended the service with- “But like most things in the Bible- we pick and choose what we want
to hear and skip everything else if we don’t like what it tells us to do. God gives us instructions and we think
that they are only options. Thats like saying;-‘No Lord, don’t show me how to get to Heaven- I think I can
find a shortcut that will get me there alot faster on my own- but thanks anyway.’ The only shortcut you’ll
find, leads to Hell.”
After the Sunday morning services were over, eleven year old Tommy said to the preacher; “I have
something very important to talk to you about - I need some answers preacher.” The Preacher said; Tommy,
before you ask the question, lets go to the Lord in prayer and ask for wisdom in this matter. God already
knows the question and the answer to our problems before we even know we have a problem. All things
should always include God- don’t you agree brother Tommy? Tommy shook his head yes- that he also
agreed.
The youth really liked this preacher because he treats the youth like they are real Christians right now, and
not like some kids in training to possibly be real Christians someday.
When they had finished the prayer asking for God to grant wisdom, Tommy explained the problem he was
having. Tommy said; How can I ask the Lord’s blessing before every meal when prayer is not allowed in
school? If I eat food that has not been blessed- isn’t that the food that causes cancer and stops your heart up
and other bad stuff like that? What is a Christian kid like me suppose to do preacher?
The preacher smiled real big said; See thats the trouble with you young folks- you all stay awake during the
whole service paying attention- instead of going to sleep during the sermon like your suppose to do. You all
don’t ask them easy questions, no.... you all got to think up them hard question to ask a preacher. This one
makes a fellow have to get down and think a while, and it is a question that sure needs to be answered.
Well, we know we should ask for the Lord’s blessing before each meal and thank him for the food and ask
him for it to nourish our body. If we done this each time before we ate, I’m sure we would be healthier than
we are. But we grab a candy bar or soda and gulp it down with out asking the Lord to bless it.
I must confess that I have been guilty of doing this many times in the past, but I’m going to have to start
paying better attention with people like you around. See what you done did by paying attention- now I can’t
even sneak a candy bar. Boy I hope your happy. (Tommy just busted out laughing.)
Now praying in school when it ain’t legal- thats the hard part. Remember what Jesus said about paying the
taxes when he was asked- give to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s. So there must be a way
to do both or Jesus would have said to do one and not the other. Some prayers are just for God to hear
anyway. Do you think God wants everybody to know all his business? Tommy said; No, but what do I say if
somebody notices?
Well a teacher saw a little boy with his head bent down and said; “Are you praying in the school cafeteria? ”
The little boy said: I’m talking to my Dad.
The teacher said; Your Dad must have awful good hearing. The boy said; He sure does- Dad can even hear
what I’m thinking. The boy didn’t lie and nobody but God knows what your saying or who your saying it to
as long as you don’t use your voice and speak aloud. There is no band on what you say in your mind.
Tommy said; I think I can deal with that preacher. The preacher said; Now lets thank God for the fellowship
we just had together. And they did. Amen.
