Website for
Holy Family RCIA

Welcome to the website for Holy Family's RCIA!
(Don't forget to sign our guestbook!)

We developed this site to help the RCIA candidates who might miss a lesson.  This will provide the notes on everything we discuss throughout the RCIA process.  It does not, however, take the place of RCIA.  The lessons themselves take on such vitality that it would be impossible to gain as much wisdom from merely reading material on this or any website.

We thought also that this site would be of benefit to those parishioners who often wonder, "Just what do they do in that RCIA thing anyway?"  RCIA, by the way, stands for Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults.

As with the RCIA candidates, all parishioners are invited to join us at RCIA at any time.  We welcome everyone.  Many times, we who have been Catholic since infancy, become mundane about our faith.  Sure we knew it all once, but it has migrated to the far reaches of our memory.   What better way to refresh our faith knowledge than to sit in on a few (or all) of the RCIA classes.  That is what is being taught there anyway.

RCIA is set up in sections.  The first section is called Precatechumenate.  "Breaking The Word"  is what  we do during this time period.  We leave Mass after the readings and then we  re-read the Gospel. We then follow with a basic Bible Study of what Jesus is teaching us through His holy Word.  The length of this section is optional.  It is a time for inquiry and introduction to Gospel values, an opportunity for the beginnings of faith.

The next step in RCIA is the Rite of Acceptance.  During this ritual, the Precatechumenates accept their intention to continue on the path set by RCIA.  They then become Catechemenates.  At this point church doctrine is taught.  Following the period of Catechumanate, is the enrollment of names and then the period of purification and enlightenment.  During this time, the Catechumenates' names are put in the Enrollment Book in the Lexington Cathedral and then (during Lent) they begin serious preparation for the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Holy Communion and Confirmation).

Following is the list of the RCIA classes so far.  As mentioned earlier, all are welcome to join us in the Rectory basement for RCIA instruction.
