Below are listed those Amazons who have been inducted (possibly against their will) into the "VENERABLE ORDER OF THE SHIRT"!

Membership into the Order of the Shirt is awarded to any Amazon who in some way "distinguishes herself" during an Amazon-sponsored trip or activity. With a catch...

The Shirt was donated by Zolly, one of our original members, who picked it up years ago at the Michigan Womyn's Music Festival. Boldly emblazoned across the front it reads "AMAZON"! And the picture below is of women swimming in a mountain pool with a waterfall, trees, and a big rainbow overhead. It was *perfect*!:) She suggested that the shirt be passed from member to member in recognition of some "deed" to be determined by the group. After much discussion and several wonderful suggestions, we decided that The Shirt would be awarded *NOT* for heroic deeds, outstanding attitude, or even superb cheffery over a campfire - but rather as a more humorous, tongue-in-cheek award for outstandingly *dubious* achievement!:)

The Shirt is awarded to new inductees at a meeting, along with a professional, signed certificate of membership, and is held in possession of the winner for as long as it takes for another person to win it away from them! Though others have narrowly missed induction for a variety of interesting feats, the winners thus far are:

1) LAURA HARRIS (July 1999 - February 2000; Dix River Trip) For ignoring perfectly good instruction by her leader, following her own "trail" and sinking to her chest in deep, black mud. This act resulted in her having to be rescued by three other Amazons: Jennifer, Amy, and Laurie using a long rope. Photographic evidence may be found amongst the "Adventure Archives" on this site!:)

2) LAURIE DAVISON (February 2000 until some poor slob wins it off her; During normal execution of her leadership duties) For attempting to send scanned photos in very large format, that resulted in a chain reaction of crashing computers and locking people out of their email, including herself for three days!:) Jpegs, people! Jpegs!:)
