A MISSION STATEMENT ...OF SORTS!!!

The Amazon Adventurers were founded in January, 1999 and in February the adventures began with a very windy day hike at "The Pinnacles" in Berea! Since then we have tried to hold a trip, big or small, every month! We've hiked at Raven Run, a local nature preserve, and we've explored the depths of Mammoth Cave! Some of us even hope to canoe to the Arctic Circle in August... The Amazons are open to *all* women - young and old, short or tall, thick or thin - and we do not discriminate based upon race, religion, sexual orientation, family status, or any other issue that others in this world seem to have such trouble with. If you're a good and open-minded individual and you want to have fun in the woods with other women, then you are welcome in the Amazons! Right now we have a wonderfully diverse group - I couldn't have done better if I'd hand picked them! The group is very casual - there are no "officers". There is also only one rule: anyone who shows up for an event or meeting drunk or chemically altered will be used as firewood! But that's it. My only rule:)

CHILDREN AND DOGS
Children and dogs (also children IMHO) are welcome on trips under the condition that they be well behaved and that the parents and/or owners are responsible for them. If your dog bites, fights with other dogs, or has a tendency to bark all night at absolutely nothing, please be understanding and leave it at home. Likewise, if your *child* bites, fights with other dogs, or has the tendency to bark all night at absolutely nothing, we hope you will have the courtesy to find a babysitter! Amazons need their sleep, after all!:) So far our children and pets have added much to the group experience and we look forward to their joining us on future trips as well:)

INTERESTS
Because of our large and diverse membership (we have nearly 100 members presently, about half of whom are regularly active in the group), the "types" of adventures are equally diverse! To include a bit of everything for everybody, We're trying to set up trips of all kinds, from hiking to climbing to rafting to canoeing... and even the occasional leisurely getaway in some secluded chalet with a fireplace and a hot tub! It's a great group and we're having lots of fun! Come join us!:)
