I have grown up and live on a farm all my life. My father and uncle farm 450+ acres of their own land and rent about 700-800 more. The operation consists mainly of beef cattle, but we are also involved in hay, silage production Until the last 4 or 5 years they were also involved in the production and distribution of Thompson Hybrid Seed Corn, a business started by my grandfather in the 1960's. My family was heavily involved with production of tobacco with a 20,000 lbs. tobacco base before the cuts recently, however, we lease it out now and have had nothing to do with it in 4 or 5 years.

(Greg Prewitt, Me, Daddy, Barry, and Lucinda in '96 hay cutting)

Recently my dad and uncle have pulled away from farming and got into construction. They own two backhoes, a trackhoe, a dozer, a trencher, and two dump trucks. I work with them laying waterlines, gas lines, and electric lines, installing septic systems, moving dirt, and landscape development. I am skilled at operating all kinds of equipment and I plan to continue doing this kind of work in the future, as well as farm.

In high school I was a member of the greatest youth orgaization ever: FFA . FFA taught me to be a better leader, how to work with others, and I had fun doing it all at the same time. My FFA experiences took me to such places as Kansas City, MO to the national convention, to Washington, D.C. where I got to talk with our government leaders, and down to Texas and Oklahoma where I saw first hand the differences of agriculture and people. My love for the FFA grew to its height by serving as Scholarship and Supervised Ag. Committee Chairperson, then becoming Jr. President then Secretary of the local chapter, then by getting the opporitunity to run for state office from the Licking River Region in 1998. This past October I recieved my American FFA Degree at the first National FFA Convention to be held in Louisville, Kentucky.

(Me and Chip in Washington, DC for Washington Leadership Conference, 1996)

I am very proud of my accomplishments in FFA, and in school. I graduated high school in the top 20 of my class. I went on to college and kept a 3.8 gpa during my freshman year. I have earned the respect of my peers and professors, and strive to work hard and make the most out of my educational experience. My major in college reflects my love of two things: agriculture and the FFA. As an ag. teacher I want to reach out and get others involved in the FFA so that they will gain all of the benefits I have. I also want tomorrows adults to be aware of the importance of agriculture, and how we would not be able to continue life without it.
