News, 7-22-2000: Steve's Stanza Page is now closed.
Well, here's the news. I've put my Stanza up for sale. It was just starting to show its age. That and the fact that I got a great deal on a newer car. I'm sure that if somebody is willing to take good care of it it will run to 200,000 and beyond. The lack of mods and support was just getting really frustrating, and like I just said, I got a better deal. And also, the fact that parts for Stanzas are VERY hard to find where I go to college didn't help either.
My new car is a 1993 Nissan Sentra. I got a GREAT deal on it, and now I have a lot of extra money lying around from selling the Stanza. I'm about to start modding it. I'm really serious about this one, it is in such great shape already that I plan to have it at show quality one day. I'm also planning to mod the heck out of it, which is something I couldn't do with the Stanza due to lack of parts.
I'm leaving the site up, because I'm sure people will still enjoy looking at it. But, I'm not going to update anymore. Please do not ask me any more questions, and do not send me pics for the reader's rides section anymore, they will not be posted.
Thanks everybody for your support! You can visit me now at Project 4.
"Reluctantly crouched at the starting line, Engines pumping and thumping in time. The green light flashes, the flags go up. Churning and burning, they yearn for the cup. They deftly maneuver and muscle for rank,
Fuel burning fast on an empty tank. Reckless and wild, they pour through the turns. Their prowess is potent and secretly stern." -Cake
The Stanza "is about driving, the pure enjoyment of getting from point A to point B. There exists only the car, the driver, and the road. Everything else is irrelevent." -Gran Turismo
Hey there! You've just found the most comprehensive resource of information about the 1990 Nissan Stanza on the net. Besides all the technical information you will find here, I also have lots of pictures and info about my 90 XE.
You're probably wondering who is doing all this ranting and raving about Nissans. My name is Steve, I go to WVU (If you know what WVU means you know where I live) and I love my car (like you haven't figured that out already!). I bought my Stanza on September 1, 1998, for the low price of $2250. When I found it, it was a far cry from how it looks now. It was extremely dirty, sitting in the back of a driveway, and obviously had not been driven for a while. It only had three hubcaps left, and the ones it had were the ugliest ones I have ever seen. The trunklid was slowly rusting away, the stereo was fried, and the speakers were blown. The wax job was so bad that the car hardly even shined anymore. The battery was completely dead, and the grille had been repainted the wrong color. The interior of the car was a mess. The floor mats were the cheap rubber kind, and they were full of holes. The upholstry was saturated with cigarette smoke, and there was a huge hole in the driver's seat. But, I took care of all of that.
The first thing I did was give the car a good washing and waxing. After working on it for a day, it was so shiny it almost looked new. Right after that I got rid of those godawful hubaps. Within a month I had fixed the stereo and replaced the speakers. The next thing to go was the trunklid. At the junkyard I managed to find one with a perfect paint match. Soon after the trunklid I put on a set of fog lights. As I was pretty new to working on cars and fitting aftermarket parts, it took me the better part of a week. Today it would take me less than two hours. I also managed to find some velour seat covers that were such a perfect match to the upholstry that most people don't even notice them. Around Christmas time I bought a Kenwood amp and CD player. The stereo sounded good, but I still wanted more. Throughout the winter I didn't do much, because I was happy with the car as it was. In late January, I broke my ankle. It was very hard to walk around, and I spent a lot of time in the house. It was then that I made this webpage. Almost immediately I got in touch with lots of other Stanza owners, and I started to get really interested in performance. That and the fact that I had figured out how to chirp the tires on the 1-2 shift and that I had burned a Probe. I wanted to sup up my car, and having earned lots of money working over the winter, I set about doing that. In April I got rid of the horrible ugly grille that was on my car and replaced it with a chrome one. I also got rid of the mud flaps on the fenders. In May I went ahead and tinted the windows as dark as you can legally. I also ordered a GT-R emblem for the grille. In June I learned that the white gauges from an 89-91 Maxima SE fit on the Stanza, so I went ahead and did that too. Later in the month is when I really got going... I installed a Cherry Bomb TurboII muffler with a Monza 4" tip. My car now had an identity of its own around town. But I didn't stop there. I replaced my 6 1/2" rear speakers with some Pioneer 6x9" 220 watt 4-way speakers. I then put the 6 1/2's up front and got rid of my wimpy 4x6" speakers. That sucker thumps now. I went shopping for some PIAA superwhite bulbs in August, and while I was in the store I found a Japanese license plate which is now on my front bumper. Then I went to school, and the expensive stuff stopped. But, even though I'm short on cash, I've still managed to do some great low buck stuff. Since I've been in school I've done a leather shift boot with a MOMO shift knob, and I rewired my side lights to come on with the fog lights and put green bulbs in them (Pics coming soon). I put on the trunk lock cover from a 92 Stanza, which adds a nice look. I've also just added some mesh in my grille which looks very nice. Pics of that are coming soon too. Well, that's my year of Stanza ownership in a nutshell. Oh yeah, the car's been running great and I've had almost no problems.
