Bob Dylan Discussion Page

Welcome! This page is still in its infancy (only a week old), so please excuse the relative lack of information. Believe me, this will soon be a very interesting site. I want to encourage each of you to E-mail me or at least sign my guestbook (from my main page). Hey, since you're already here, might as well do both :-). I'll launch this site with some brief review and thoughts on a couple of Dylan topics, but, first, a bit about myself. I began my journey into the realm of Dylanism in 1992 at the age of 21. I was always aware of Bob, but like a lot of other non-believers, my understanding was limited to Like a Rolling Stone and Greatest Hits Vol. 1. My conversion took place innocently enough; I was up really late one night (as usual) and saw Don't Look Back on Cinemax. Well, that got my curiosity peeked and I went out and bought Greatest Hits Vol. 2, which begat Bringing it All Back Home. Before long, I went out and got Biograph and the Bootleg Series and I was off and running. Within the year I owned every album Bob had ever released. Yes, I'm a quick mover, but who among you can blame me for my enthusiasm? I figured I'd already missed out on over 20 years of this great stuff and it was time to make amends! We all have an opinion (about his best songs, albums, the meaning of his lyrics etc.) and that's part of what makes following Dylan so special. Special, in that the answer to any question about Bob is never obvious. Analyzing Dylan is like peeling an onion, with layer after layer to reach the bottom (and when you get there you still have an enigma!). Still, most of us in this wonderful fraternity never tire in our quests to gain a morsel of insight into the man's work. I've seen Bob in concert five times and anyone who has attended his shows is aware that the live performances are a large part of what helps make Bob so unique. His songs live and breathe; All Along the Watchtower is as fresh today as it was the morning John Wesley Harding hit the shelves. Sure, sometimes the rearrangements fall flat, but I've wandered out of the auditorium after more than one concert amazed at the new interpretation he managed to squeeze out of an old favorite. Bob is never boring, that's for sure. I, for one, wouldn't have him any other way! My Favorite Song: Tangled Up in Blue (Simply put, the best song ever written in the history of popular music. A most fascinating look at the nature of love and loss. Listen to it repeatedly and thank me later. I still get something new out of this track each time I hear it.) My Favorite Album: Blonde on Blonde (Just edging out Highway 61 Revisited and Blood on the Tracks. Visions of Johanna is a stroke of genius and Fourth Time Around is beautiful. Then again, they may not even be among the top two or three tracks on the album. If you don't yet own it, buy it immediately!) Best Live Show I've Attended: August 23, 1994, Louisville, Kentucky. (Opened with a great version of Jokerman and played the most inspired acoustic set that night that I've ever seen. He dusted off Mama You Been on My Mind, blazed through a vengeful Masters of War (possibly the best performance he has EVER given of that song) and came back with jaunting Don't Think Twice, It's All Right. Among other songs played that night were Senor, Tangled Up in Blue, Queen Jane Approximately and Maggie's Farm. I was in the fourth row that night. If anyone has a bootleg of this show or could put me in touch with someone that might be able to help, PLEASE contact me. Thanks! This page will be updated regularly with all kinds of stuff. This is just my "getting to know you" session. I'll be posting new things soon. Let me know what you think about my page!!!
