Comments

I observed the tryouts and I thought eight of the players chosen were obvious with the remaining four being a little harder to pick.  Other players that were not chosen who impressed me included Mykal Farris (Ashland Blazer), Rianna Gayheart (Owen County), and Kristen Jacob (Lexington Christian Academy).  The ladies all gave an excellent effort but it was obvious that several were not in the best condition as the season ended weeks earlier. Also, several of the girls were faced with the dilemma of the tryouts and their school prom being on the same day.  This team will be lacking in height but should have good team quickness and defensive tenacity.

The West Team survived a second half rally to defeat the East Team 106-102.  The East trailed by 24 points in the second half but rallied to narrow the final margin.  Shabazz Muhammad was named Game MVP and led the West Team with 21 points and six rebounds.  Rasheed Sulaimon added 18 points including four three point baskets.  Archie Goodwin chipped in with 14 points and Cameron Ridley recorded 12 points and nine rebounds.  Isaiah Austin also reached double figures with 10 points.  Brandon Ashley pulled down 10 rebounds.

Alex Poythress led the East Team with 19 points.  Rodney Purvis added 15 points.  Kyle Anderson recorded 13 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists.  Tony Parker and T.J. Warren each scored 10 points and DaJuan Coleman pulled down 12 rebounds.

This was an extremely difficult game to observe because of the athleticism, everything is above the rim and played at warp speed which is what you would expect with 24 of the top players in the nation on one floor.  Please visit the very comprehensive event website as well as the various analysts and recruiting gurus who observed and reported their opinions about the players and games.  While I expected the skill and athleticism as well as the crowd pleasing dunks and the “show time” of an all-star game I was impressed with some of the defense played by several of the players.  This game has always featured a who’s who of players and this year’s roster was dotted with players who will make their mark at the college level and beyond.
