Lexington Catholic vs. Boyle County

Boyle County High School
Danville, KY
October 11, 2019

© 2019 by Ron Harrison

This game is looked forward to each year by football fans across the state and this year was no exception.  However this year was complete domination by Boyle County as they defeated Lexington Catholic by a score of 64-28 going to a running clock at 57-21 at 9:23 left in the third quarter.  Tonight most of the pre-game hype was about Lexington Catholic QB Beau Allen who threw for 308 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another touchdown.  However, the stars of stars tonight were on the Boyle County side as vastly underrated QB Reed Lanter put on a show with 24of 28 passes completed for 496 yards and five touchdowns and ran for another touchdown.  Do-it-all athlete Reese Smith caught eight passes for 276 yards and three touchdowns, carried the ball once for 38 yards and a touchdown, and recorded five solo tackles.  This victory was accomplished without the services of Landen Bartleson who has already committed to Notre Dame.  Also kudos to Reed Lanter’s brother Cole Lanter who caught five passes for 84 yards and two touchdowns, returned three kickoffs for 76 yards, and recorded four solo tackles.

Boyle County recorded 27 first downs and 612 yards of total offense.  The Rebels were penalized 10 times for 129 yards.  Lexington Catholic recorded 23 first downs and 449 yards of total offense.  The Knights were penalized 13 times for 115 yards.

Andrew Sacco led Boyle County’s ground game with 70 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries.  Reese Smith carried the ball once for 38 yards and a touchdown.  Will McDaniel and Reed Lanter each added a touchdown on the ground.  Reed Lanter completed 24 of 28 passes for 496 yards and five touchdowns.  Reese Smith caught eight passes for 276 yards and three touchdowns.  Cameron Yates added seven receptions for 82 yards.  Cole Lanter recorded five receptions for 84 yards and two touchdowns.  Cole Lanter returned three kickoffs for 76 yards with a long return of 38 yards.  Ezarious “Eazy” Roller led the defense with six solo and one assisted tackles with 1.5 of his tackles resulting in losses totaling four yards.  Hayden Bottoms added five solo tackles with two of his tackles resulting in losses totaling six yards.  Reese Smith chipped in with five solo tackles.

Ryan Nichols led Lexington Catholic’s ground game with 38 yards on seven carries.  Beau Allen carried the ball 10 times for 18 yards and a touchdown.  Beau Allen completed 19 of 37 passes for 308 yards and two touchdowns.  Jack Gohmann completed his only pass for 79 yards and a touchdown.  Jackson Corbett caught seven passes for 184 yards and two touchdowns.  Blake Busson added five receptions for 129 yards and a touchdown.  Dylan Bracken recorded five receptions for 61 yards.  B. Anderson punted three times for a 42.3 average with a long kick of 56 yards, and one punt inside the 20 yard line.  JD Woodall returned seven kickoffs for 135 yards.  John Simms led the defense with five solo tackles.  Phillipe Itumva added four solo and two assisted tackles.
