Class 1A Playoffs

Beechwood 35  Russellville 0 (Semifinal) – Brayden Burch completed seven of nine passes for 128 yards and two touchdowns.

Hazard 20  Paintsville 7 (Semifinal) – Corey Smith carried the ball 38 times for 216 yards and two touchdowns.

Class 2A Playoffs

Christian Academy of Louisville 48  Mayfield 24 (Semifinal) – Christian Academy of Louisville scored 31 unanswered points in the second half to end Mayfield’s winning streak at 24.

Danville 42  Covington Holy Cross 35 (Semifinal) – Zach Dampier threw for 256 yards and four touchdowns.  David Walker caught three touchdown passes, blocked a punt, and intercepted a pass.

Class 3A Playoffs

Belfry 42  Corbin 17 (Semifinal) – Belfry trailed 17-0 before scoring 42 unanswered points for the win.  Taveon Hunter carried the ball six times for 201 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Pirates.

Central 21  Elizabethtown 14 – Corey Johnson carried the ball 29 times for 169 yards and a touchdown.

Class 4A Playoffs

Franklin-Simpson 27  John Hardin 7 (Semifinal) – Carlos McKinney ran for 119 yards and a touchdown to lead Franklin-Simpson.

Johnson Central 51  Wayne County 0 -  Joe Jackson ran for 185 yards and two touchdowns.

Class 5A Playoffs

Bowling Green 34  Fern Creek 7 (Semifinal) – Jamal Carothers carried the ball 19 times for 196 yards and two touchdowns and caught a touchdown pass.  Clark Payne completed 17 of 31 passes for 234 yards and three touchdowns.

Pulaski County 62  South Oldham 55 (Semifinal) – Wiley Cain completed 29 of 41 passes for 487 yards and five touchdowns and Jake Johnson caught 19 passes for 289 yards and three touchdowns to lead Pulaski County.  Drew Zaubi completed 15 of 28 passes for 243 yards and four touchdowns and carried the ball five times for 75 yards and two touchdowns and Keaton Martin carried the ball 26 times for 200 yards and a touchdown to lead South Oldham.

Class 6A Playoffs

Lafayette 48  Scott County 47 (Semifinal) – Scott County was stopped on a two point conversion attempt in the closing seconds of the game.  Walker Wood completed 15 of 16 passes for 211 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 96 yards and four touchdowns to lead Lafayette.

Trinity 24  St. Xavier 14 (Semifinal) – Spencer Blackburn completed 15 of 25 passes for 187 yards and three touchdowns and Rondale Moore caught seven passes for 80 yards and two touchdowns.

This game was touted to be a classic and it did not disappoint.  Lafayette defeated Scott County by a score of 48-47 but not without high drama.  Scott County raced out to a 20-7 lead but Lafayette led 34-27 after three quarters.  Scott County scored with 11 seconds remaining on the clock to pull within one; 48-47 and elected to go for the win with a two point conversion.  The first attempt was reportedly stopped by the officials and on the actual attempt Brice Fryman was stopped short and Lafayette returns to the Class 6A championship for the second year in a row.  Lafayette improves to 13-1 while Scott County finishes their season at 11-3.  Lafayette recorded 22 first downs and 471 yards of total offense. The Generals were penalized eight times for 76 yards and lost a fumble.  Scott County recorded 22 first downs and 397 yards of total offense.  The Cardinals were penalized five times for 45 yards and lost a fumble.

Cameron Morgan led Lafayette’s ground game with 162 yards on 20 carries.  Walker Wood carried the ball 21 times for 96 yards and four touchdowns.  Walker Wood completed 15 of 16 passes for 211 yards and three touchdowns.  Quinten Brown caught four passes for 63 yards and a touchdown.  Matthew Guilfoil added three receptions for 58 yards and a touchdown.  Dekwan Edwards caught two passes for 56 yards.  Teandre Newcome added two receptions for 16 yards and a touchdown. Teandre Newcome returned four kickoffs for 94 yards with along return of 53 yards.  Tejrin McCoy led the defense with 10 solo and three assisted tackles.  Ean Shaw added three solo and seven assisted tackles.  Dylan McKinney, Xavier Douglas, and Jordan Thomas each recorded five solo and one assisted tackles.

Jacob Burton led Scott County’s ground game with 154 yards and three touchdowns on 31 carries. Kendrick Hamilton added 110 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries.  Brice Fryman carried the ball nine times for 74 yards and a touchdown.  Josh Davis completed three of six passes for 51 yards and a touchdown.  Kendrick Hamilton, Brice Fryman, and C. Sheppard each caught one pass for 31, 16, and 4 yards respectively with Sheppard’s reception going for a touchdown.  Cooper Watts led the defense with seven solo and four assisted tackles.  Sam Sutton added eight solo and one assisted tackles.  Berk Watts recorded six solo and two assisted tackles.

Morgan State University coach Edward Davis Jr. started the following lineup: 5-10 Jr. Tykyrah Williams, 5-8 Jr. Zuri White, 6-2 Jr. Lexus Spears, 5-6 Jr. Braennan Farrar, and 5-8 So. Chelsea Mitchell.  Eastern Kentucky University coach Chrissy Roberts countered with 6-0 Fr. Tae’Lour Richardson, 5-11 Sr. Shavontae Naylor, 6-3 Jr. Madison Wood, 5-5 Sr. Mariah Massengill, and 5-8 Sr. Alexus Cooper.

Eastern Kentucky University led 47-46 after three quarters but buoyed by two layups by 5-11 So. Abby Wright allowed the Colonels to take a 54-46 lead and the Lady Bears were never able to overtake the Colonels.  Eastern Kentucky University shot 37.9% from the field including four of eight from the three point line.  The Colonels connected on 18 of 26 free throws, pulled down 43 rebounds, and scored 20 points off 16 Morgan State turnovers.  Morgan State shot 29.6% from the field including five of 19 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Bears connected on 11 of 13 free throws, pulled down 45 rebounds, and scored 14 points off 19 Eastern Kentucky turnovers.  Morgan State held a 20-3 advantage on second chance points.

6-1 Sr. Jalen O’Bannon led Eastern Kentucky University with 17 points and three rebounds.  Alexus Cooper added 16 points including two three point baskets and six rebounds.  Mariah Massengill chipped in with nine points and five steals.  Madison Wood pulled down 11 rebounds.  Abby Wright also scored nine points.

Braennan Farrar led Morgan State with 15 points, five rebounds, and three steals.  5-9 Jr. Tayler Miller added 11 points including three three point baskets and seven rebounds.  Zuri White pulled down eight rebounds.

Asante Gist, and 6-2 Sr. Isaac McGlone.  Georgia State University coach Ron Hunter countered with 6-8 Sr. Jeremy Hollowell, 6-5 So. Jeff Thomas, 6-8 Sr. Willie Clayton, 6-0 Sr. Isaiah Dennis, and 6-3 Fr. D’Marcus Simonds.

Georgia State defeated Eastern Kentucky University by a score of 82-65.  Georgia State shot 52.6% from the field including nine of 18 from the three point line.  They connected on 13 of 19 free throws, pulled down 35 rebounds, and scored 18 points off 18 Eastern Kentucky turnovers.  Georgia State held a 44-6 advantage in bench scoring.  Eastern Kentucky shot 33.3% from the field including six of 31 from beyond the arc.  The Colonels connected on 17 of 21 free throws, pulled down 36 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 15 Georgia State turnovers.

6-1 Jr. Isaiah Williams led Georgia State with 18 points including two three point baskets.  6-3 Sr. Justin Seymour added 15 points on five three point baskets.  6-5 So. Malik Benlevi chipped in with 11 points and four rebounds.  Willie Clayton recorded nine points and 15 rebounds.

Nick Mayo led Eastern Kentucky University with 21 points and six rebounds.  Asante Gist added 16 points and five assists.  Zach Charles recorded 10 points, eight rebounds, and two blocked shots.  Jaylen Babb-Harrison chipped in with nine points and six rebounds.

Eastern Kentucky connected on four three point baskets in overtime to defeat Idaho State by a score of 91-82.  The score was tied eight times and there were six lead changes in the game.  Eastern Kentucky University shot 43.3% from the field including 12 of 35 from the three point line.  The Colonels connected on 21 of 25 free throws, pulled down 37 rebounds, and scored 32 points off 30 Idaho State turnovers.  Idaho State shot 50.9% from the field including 12 of 26 from beyond the arc.  They connected on 12 of 20 free throws, pulled down 35 rebounds, and scored 12 points off 21 Eastern Kentucky University turnovers.

Nick Mayo led Eastern Kentucky University with 21 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists.  Jaylen Babb-Harrison added 20 points, seven rebounds, seven assists, and three steals.  6-0 Jr. Dillon Avare recorded 12 points on four three point baskets.  Zach Charles chipped in with 10 points, seven rebounds, and three steals.  Isaac McGlone added nine points including two three point baskets, two assists, and five steals.

Brandon Boyd led Idaho State with 25 points including four three point baskets, and four steals.  Geno Luzcando added 20 points, 11 rebounds, three assists, and seven steals.  Gary Chivichyan added 11 points and Novak Topalovic recorded 10 points and nine rebounds.  6-8 Jr. Robert Jones chipped in with 10 points.

Western Carolina rallied from a 40-29 deficit at halftime to defeat Eastern Kentucky by a score of 72-61.  It was a tale of two halves as Western Carolina outscored Eastern Kentucky 43-21 after the first half intermission.  Western Carolina quickly erased Eastern Kentucky’s advantage at halftime by outscoring the Colonels 23-8 in the third quarter.  Eastern Kentucky shot a dismal 27.3% (3-11) from the free throw line, outrebounded 44-30) and gave up 23 points off 15 turnovers.

Western Carolina University shot 44.15 from the field including five of 11 from the three point line.  They connected on 15 of 21 free throws, pulled down 44 rebounds, and scored 23 points off 15 Eastern Kentucky turnovers.  Eastern Kentucky University shot 43.5% from the field including four of 13 from beyond the arc.  The Colonels connected on three of 11 free throws, pulled down 30 rebounds, and scored five points off 18 Western Carolina turnovers.

Sherae Bonner led Western Carolina with 15 points, 12 rebounds, and three blocked shots.  5-8 So. Raziyah Farrington also scored 15 points including three three point baskets.  JonTay Mitchem added 12 points, five rebounds, four assists, and two steals.  Angel Allen recorded 10 points, four rebounds, and four assists.5-5 Jr. Kyia Hough chipped in with nine points.

Jalen O’Bannon led Eastern Kentucky University with 11 points, nine rebounds, six assists, and four blocked shots.  Shavontae Naylor added 10 points and seven rebounds.  Alexus Cooper recorded eight points, four assist, and three steals.

Eastern Kentucky led by 15 in the first half and the score was tied 57-57 with 12:57 left in the game but Texas Tech pulled away for a 90-71 victory.  Texas Tech shot 59.2% from the field including seven of 11 from the three point line.  The Raiders connected on 25 of 30 free throws, pulled down 33 rebounds, and scored 19 points off 10 Eastern Kentucky turnovers.  Eastern Kentucky shot 36.8% from the field including 12 of 25 from beyond the arc.  The Colonels connected on 17 of 19 free throws, pulled down 23 rebounds, and scored 10 points off 10 Texas tech turnovers.

Shadell Millinghaus led a balanced Texas Tech scoring attack with 20 points and seven rebounds.  6-6 Jr. Justin Gray added 17 points, six rebounds, and three blocked shots.  Aaron Ross recorded 16 points including 10 of 10 free throws and three assists.  Anthony Livingston chipped in with 11 points and six rebounds.  6-3 Jr. Keenan Evans also reached double figures with 10 points.

Asante Gist led Eastern Kentucky with 21 points including five three point baskets and three assists.  Jaylen Babb-Harrison added 14 points including four three point baskets and five rebounds.  Zach Charles recorded 13 points and seven rebounds.  Nick Mayo also scored 13 points.

Eastern Kentucky University only trailed by two; 50-48 with 13 minutes left in the game but Auburn pulled away to earn an 85-54 over the Colonels.  Auburn shot 45.8% from the field including six of 18 from the three point line.  The tigers connected on 25 of 42 free throws, pulled down 51 rebounds, and scored 15 points off 14 EKU turnovers.  Auburn held a decided 26-6 advantage in second chance points.  Eastern Kentucky University shot 32.8% from the field including eight of 33 from beyond the arc.  The Colonels connected on 12 of 16 free throws, pulled down 31 rebounds, and scored six points off 15 Auburn turnovers.

Mustapha Heron led Auburn with 24 points, 10 rebounds, and two steals.  Heron was eight of eight from the field including one of one from beyond the arc, and seven of 13 free throws.  Danjel Purifoy added 16 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and three steals.  6-0 GS Ronnie Jackson chipped in with 13 points and four assists. 

Nick Mayo led Eastern Kentucky University with 20 points and four rebounds.  Jaylen Babb-Harrison added 14 points and 6-0 Jr. Dillon Avare recorded 11 points including three three point baskets.  6-6 Fr. DeAndre Dishman chipped in with eight points and four rebounds.

Eastern Illinois dominated play today in a 24-0 victory over Eastern Kentucky today.  EKU was unable to generate offense with only 152 yards of total offense and also turned the ball over four times.  The Colonels were unable to slow down Eastern Illinois’ ground game as they gained 304 yards on 59 carries for a 5.2 average.  Eastern Illinois recorded 14 first downs and 431 yards of total offense.  They were penalized 13 times for 95 yards and lost a fumble.  Eastern Kentucky University recorded seven first downs and 152 yards of total offense.  The Colonels were penalized seven times for 60 yards, lost three fumbles, and had a pass intercepted.

Devin Church led Eastern Illinois’ ground game with 177 yards and a touchdown on 25 carries.  Korliss Marshall carried the ball nine times for 58 yards.  Jared Pilson added 41 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries.  Darshon McCullough carried the ball eight times for 24 yards and a touchdown.  Jared Pilson completed eight of 11 passes for 127 yards.  Devin Church caught two passes for 31 yards.  Addison Bounds added two receptions for 29 yards.  James Sheehan caught two passes for 24 yards.  Anthony Taylor added one reception for 40 yards.  Nick Horne led the defense with six solo and two assisted tackles with four of his tackles resulting in losses totaling 23 yards.  Mack Weaver added two solo and four assisted tackles.  David Johnson recorded two solo and two assisted tackles with 1.5 of his tackles resulting in losses totaling eight yards and recovered a fumble.  Cornelius Page recovered a fumble and Tray Mitchell intercepted a pass.

Ethan Thomas led Eastern Kentucky’s ground game with 80 yards and 12 carries.  Tyler Swafford completed eight of 18 passes for 80 yards with one interception.  Ryan Markush caught five passes for 49 yards.  Jared Sanders returned two kickoffs for 57 yards including a long return of 40 yards.  Jeffrey Canady led the defense with five solo and 10 assisted tackles.  Corey Glass added five solo and five assisted tackles.  Nigel Bruce recorded six solo and three assisted tackles.  Kiante Northington added five solo and two assisted tackles and recovered a fumble.

Both teams entered this game with 9-0 records and Edyth J. Hayes finally emerged with a 42-34 double overtime victory.  The score was tied 26-26 at the end of regulation.  Both teams scored in the first overtime and Hayes finally claimed the championship in the second overtime series.  Hayes recorded 19 first downs and 384 yards of total offense.  They were penalized four times for 26 yards, lost a fumble, and had a pass intercepted.  Bryan Station recorded 17 first downs and 318 yards of total offense.  They were penalized three times for 25 yards and had a pass intercepted.

 Clinkscale led Hayes’ ground game with 205 yards and three touchdowns on 15 carries.  Will Logan carried the ball seven times for 73 yards and a touchdown.  Bradley Webb added 70 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries.  C. Barrentine completed one of four passes for seven yards with one interception.  P. Henderson caught one pass for seven yards.  Micole Sharpe led the defense with 11 solo and three assisted tackles with two of his tackles resulting in losses totaling two yards.  Bradley Webb added five solo and seven assisted tackles.  I. Clinkscale recorded four solo and two assisted tackles.  J. Henderson added three solo and four assisted tackles with two of his tackles resulting in losses totaling six yards.

Teyo Waite led Bryan Station’s ground game with 73 yards on nine carries.  Dekel Crowdus added 68 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries.  Dadrien Taylor carried the ball 10 times for 52 yards and a touchdown.  Dekel Crowdus completed seven of 15 passes for 126 yards and two touchdowns with one interception.  Dadrien Taylor caught three passes for 41 yards and two touchdowns.  Antonio Taylor added two receptions for 67 yards.  D. Griffin led the defense with six solo and two assisted tackles.  Dadrien Taylor added five solo and one assisted tackles and recovered a fumble.  Teyo Waite recorded three solo and four assisted tackles.
