Kick the tires and light the fires is an old expression used

in auto racing and we are at this point in the camp season.

The final session of Rick Bolus 35th High

Potential Blue Chip Basketball Camp will

be held from July 13-17, 2014 at

Georgetown College.  Approximately 250

campers are expected with plenty of talent

including players with big upsides and

players flying under the radar screen.  Event

coverage will be on www.kyprephoops.com

and www.basketball-camp.net.  Josh Bolus

has been adding video highlights as well on

the www.basketball-camp.net as well as a lot of

face book and twitter coverage.

Rick Bolus Girls Camp Wrap-Up
Topic: Basketball

2014RBGUC

The Junior Division continues to be popular with a lot of promising young talent.  5-4 8th Grade Juliette Smith Scott County Middle school Georgetown, KY was named Junior Division Camp MVP and is a versatile scorer and defender, already logging quality varsity minutes.  5-9 Fr. Michelle Vanderhoof Raceland Raceland, KY was named Junior Division Runner-Up MVP and is an excellent shooter.

The Camp MVP for the High School Division was 5-10 Sr. J’Nayah Hall Apollo Owensboro, KY an athletic wing player with a big upside.  The Camp Runner-Up MVP was 5-11 Sr. Bailey Bates Earl Haig Toronto, Canada.  Bates is a talented post player who scores well off the dribble.  5-10 Jr. Kaylee Cotton McCreary Central Stearns, KY was named Top Underclassman is a lefty with range on her jump shot but plenty tough in the paint.  5-4 So. Haeli Howard Marion County Lebanon, KY is an electrifying combo guard with range on her jump shot.  Howard may end up as a true point guard because of her size but a scoring point guard.  6-0 Sr. Alyssa Barnard Marshall County Benton, KY is a smooth lefty who can score both inside and outside.  5-9 Sr. Michael Lashon Everhart St. Petersburg, FL is an athletic all-around talent and a terror on defense.

5-8 Sr. De’Jour Young Concordia Ft. Wayne, IN makes everyone around her better and is a versatile scorer.  5-10 Jr. Kayla Bruner North Laurel London, KY is a good shooter, intense competitor, and can score off the dribble.  5-8 Jr. Kaci Currens Anderson County Lawrenceburg, KY is athletic, an excellent shooter, and is poised for a big season.  6-2 So. MacKenzie Coleman Metcalfe County Edmonton, KY is a tall young post player with a great upside.  5-5 So. Lily Grimes Breckinridge County Harned, KY point guard that finishes at the rim.  5-6 So. Kristen Mayo East Carter Grayson, KY has good point guard skills and an excellent defender.  5-8 8th Grade Kimia Carter Kenwood Clarksville, TN is an excellent perimeter defender, look for this one in the future.  5-9 Sr. Ge’Naisha Robinson Christian County Hopkinsville, KY is a big time scorer.  5-8 Jr. Anovia Byars Henry Clay Lexington, KY can score and rebound.  6-2 Jr. Aimee Jump Ryle Union, KY excellent young post player scores in the paint.

This is a partial list of players who impressed at camp, but my no means a complete list.  There were several other players who have the potential to make big impacts this season.

2014RBS1R

Senior Division Summary

Every year there are always questions about the quality of the various camps and how they compare to the various AAU events and other exposure venues in the country.  There is no question about the emergence and in some cases dominance of the “shoe” sponsored AAU events throughout the country.  However there are still potential and many good players in the independent camps throughout the country.  No, I did not see a future Michael Jordan or LeBron James this week or even a player hotly pursued by the so-called major powers in the country.  However, I did see several good players, some that will definitely play at the D1 level and many more that will get a “free ride” to school.

There were several talented players in this division with several players making good impressions.  The Camp MVP was 6-7 Sr. Will Parker Male Louisville, KY who is a big wing player with the total package of skills.  6-3 Sr. Isaiah Johnson Scott County Georgetown, KY was named Camp Runner-Up MVP and had good range on his shot.  6-5 Jr. Albert Luke Ramsay High School Birmingham, AL was named Top Underclassman and is a low post threat and a ferocious rebounder.  5-11 Sr. Austin Cummins Anderson County Lawrenceburg, KY is a deadly long range shooter and can also score off the dribble.  6-0 Sr. Elijah Pughsley Lima Lima, OH is an athletic performer with a lightning cross over dribble and range on his shot.  6-1 CF Jalen Hunter TBA Madison, TN is a “shake and bake” point guard and can provide instant offense.  6-3 Sr. Dillon Geralds Monroe County Tompkinsville, KY is an excellent shooter who creates his shots-just gets it done!!  6-0 Sr. Cedric Daniels Sound Doctrine Christian LaGrange, GA athletic 2-guard who can shoot the ball.  5-9 Sr. Chase Nappier Lighthouse Christian Antioch, TN is an athletic scorer and defender.  5-9 Sr. Braxton Nappier Lighthouse Christian Antioch, TN is an athletic floor leader with a high revving motor.  6-4 Sr. Conner Hall Jackson County Gainesboro TN athletic performer, jumps out of gym, and has range on shot.  5-11 So. Connor Wilson Ohio County Hartford, KY is an excellent ball handler and scorer- keep an eye on in the future.  6-5 Sr. Richard Gaines PRP Louisville, KY is an exceptional athlete.  6-5 Jr. Brian Mosby Belleville East Belleville, IL is an athletic forward with good skills.  6-7 Sr. Zach McDaniel Hargrave Military Chatham, VA is a D-1 wing with a very nice shooting touch.  6-5 Jr. Joshua Croskey Union Union, NJ gets it done in the paint.  Ramsay High School in Birmingham brought up several players, some who have the ability to developing into D1 players-stay tuned.

This is just a partial list and several players at all grade levels performed well at this camp.  I was impressed with the efforts expended by the players regardless of the score or their team record.  Remember, this is just a partial list of the Senior or High School Division and there were several players in the Junior Division that caught the attention of veteran observers.
