Savannah Wheeler opened the season with an explosion scoring 44 points lead the Lady Lions to an 82-71 victory over Johnson Central. Wheeler is a leading candidate for Miss Basketball and has been on fire in pre-season scrimmages and now the season opener. Boyd County raced out to a 26-14 first quarter lead and was never threatened. The Lady Lions connected on eight three point baskets and connected on 22 of 30 free throws. Johnson central also connected on eight three point baskets and connected on 15 of 24 free throws.
Savannah Wheeler led Boyd County with 44 points including five three point baskets. 5-7 So. Harley Paynter and 5-8 So. Emma Borders each scored 13 points. 5-6 Sr. Grace Borders chipped in with nine points.
5-4 Sr. Ashley Belcher led Johnson Central with 21 points. 5-9 So. Sammi Sites added 16 points including four three point baskets. 5-5 So. Kelci Blair recorded 14 points. 5-4 Sr. Alaina Castle chipped in with 13 points.
