Newport coach Davey Johnson started the following lineup: 5-10 Fr. Mya Meredith, 5-8 Sr. Kelis McGuire, 6-0 Sr. Kaitlyn Davis, 5-2 Sr. Ramey Garland, and 5-4 Sr. Morgan McDay.  Lexington Christian Academy coach Michael Menifee countered with 5-8 Jr. Bethany Selby, 5-8 Jr. Grace Combs, 6-0 Fr. Emilie Teall, 5-6 So. Jaylin McClanahan, and 5-6 So. MacKenzie Buckler.

 

Newport trailed 41-40 after three quarters but rallied to defeat Lexington Christian Academy 69-60 to earn the championship.  There were seven lead changes and three ties in this game.  Newport led 34-21 early in the third quarter but LCA battled back to take the lead at the end of the third quarter before Newport’s decisive final quarter rally.  Newport shot 42% from the field including five of 12 from the three point line.  The Ladycats connected on 22 of 31 free throws, pulled down 37 rebounds, and scored 22 points off 20 LCA turnovers.  LCA shot 30.4% from the field including three of 10 from beyond the arc.  The Eagles connected on 29 of 37 free throws, pulled down 32 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 19 Newport turnovers. 

 

Mya Meredith led Newport with 24 points, 10 rebounds, two assists, and four steals.  Ramey Garland added 18 points including four three point baskets.  Morgan McDay recorded 14 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, and three steals. 

 

Bethany Selby led LCA with 26 points including two three point baskets, 18 of 21 free throws, eight rebounds, and five steals.  Grace Combs added 21 points, nine rebounds, three assists, and six steals.
